LAST summer many of you will know that

the Bunnies of Neston were subjected toa lethal epidemic of Myxomatosis. Despite

this, we still see far to many rabbits which

have not been vaccinated. Myxomatosis is

invariably fatal in unvaccinated rabbits. It

is a virus spread by eas and mosquitoes,

and all rabbits in back gardens are at risk.

Vaccination lasts only six months so it does

    need frequent

    repeat injections.

    But it is alifesaver.

    Too many

    owners still think

    of rabbits as an

Easypet. Easy to keep they are not! They

need a very outdoor lifestyle, a specic

grass based diet, and several preventative

health care medication regimes, over and

    above Myxo vaccination:-

Preventative summertime treatments toavoid the horrendous maggots of Fly strike

Three monthly treatments to avoid a

    horrible little central nervous system

    parasite called Encephalitozoon Cuniculi.

    Long name.nasty piece of work.

A further annual vaccination to prevent

    Haemorrhagic Viral Disease another fatal

virus infection, this time spread by birds.

And nally regular dental checks. With

constantly growing teeth, in many waysthis is the most important one of all. No

    exaggeration dental problems are the

single commonest reason for us seeing sick

    rabbits in this practice!

    Summer start or

park improvementsWORK is expected to begin later this

summer on improvements to WestvalePark, in Little Neston.

It currently consists of a narrow

pathway, a grassed area and limited play

equipment but funding has been secured

to make signicant improvements to this

    community green space.

    Representatives from Ellesmere Port and

    Neston Borough Council, Groundwork

    Merseyside and HAGs (the councils

approved play equipment provider) wereon-hand to give people information and

nd out how theyd like to see their park

improve at a meeting last month.

Mary Lavery, the borough councils parks

    development ofcer, said: We have

some initial ideas about creating a wider

path, installing new play equipment, soft

    landscaping, new signage and railings.

    * standard basic Will

A report by the National Consumer Council makes

worrying reading for a lot of families. The report

stated that around 27 million of us have not yet

made a Will, and as a result, of those left behind,

millions will suffer nancial and personal hardship.

The reason most people give for not

having a Will is that it is something that

    they keep meaning to do.

    Unfortunately, not having got round

to making a Will can cause untold

    complications after the death of

a loved one. If a person dies

without making a Will, then their

estate is dealt with under the rules

    of Intestacy. Most people assume

that their spouse will get everything

    anyway so why bother. Under

Intestacy rules that is not necessarily the

case. For non married partners it is even worse,

there is no such thing as common law wives or

husbands, therefore they have no rights to inherit,

no matter how long they have lived together.

The above situations can be avoided with a

simple Will. However, the Right Will for your own

individual circumstances will enable you to make

sure that your estate goes where you want it to go,

to your loved ones. This includes helping to

protect your assets against third parties

such as Care Fees and Inheritance

    Tax.

Jim Howard of In Home Legal

Services will be pleased to guide

you on how to make the Right Will

for your family, so that you can leave

    love rather than potential misery,

ITS only six short months ago I started outto grow vegetables and herbs at Dovecote

Nurseries. After 15 years of landscaping and

gardening I was almost convinced it would

be a success especially as I wasnt givingup the day job.

Even so it hasnt been easy from the startand steadily got harder but I had that rush

of enthusiasm to keep me going back then.

That slowly burnt out as the mice atemy seeds, then the pigeons pulled up

the seedlings and eventually the rabbitstunneled under and up through the

compost heap to beat the rabbit fenceonce more.

Even now the baby bunnies are still

squeezing into the polytunnel and gettingthe freshest food in Burton.

But last month I nally reached a stagethat I had enough vegetables to make a

    stall.

Despite some terrible weather customershave called every Sunday to get fresh

vegetables picked that morning. Thesupport and encouragement has made it

all worthwhile I know now that Im on trackto building a business that has the local

area at heart and offers an answer to some

of the problems of global warming andfood miles. Thank you for your support.

FOR the rst time in its full glory, Ness

    Gardens has recreated a Wildower

Meadow, reminding us all what nature is

really about and taking many of us back

in time to our childhood memories.

Over two hectares of grassland have

been converted into a wildower meadow,

    the stunning transformation has taken

place over the last few months, mowngrass has been replaced by shimmering

    elds of blue cornowers.

Thanks to a grant from the Friends of

Ness Gardens, and working with Dr Phil

Putwain from the University of Liverpool

a project was developed to introduce

meadow owers back to the gardens at

Ness. The hardest task is to reduce the

fertility of the soil to allow the owers to

compete with the grass. Landlife, theLiverpool based charity, were employed to

deep inversion plough the areas, before

sowing 1m deep with specially formulated

    wildower mixes.

The result has been a return to the

    display of simpler agricultural times,

    when cornelds were often scattered

with annual owers such as corn cockle,

    marigold and poppies.

The long term aim is to manage the

areas for meadow owers to encouragewildlife. Ness already conducts surveys

on its moths, butteries and damselies

and this year we will be working with the

Liverpool Museum to look at natural Bee

    populations.

Ness Gardens created a special display

garden to mark the 10th anniversary

of the RHS Tatton Show Garden for

Bees highlights the importance of Bee

pollination and to demonstrate how wecan attract them into our gardens.
