Happy New Year of the Rat. Wishing you all the best.

Friday 7th February, students and staff members from Beckenham Primary School were entertained by the

sound of drums, cymbals, gongs and the lion dancers from Yaolin Kung Fu Association. Many lucky students

also received lollies and mandarins from the lions mouth which symbolises good fortune and prosperity.

The Lion Dance is a form of Chinese traditional dance usually performed on big occasions such as the Spring

Festival 春

(Chinese New Year 中

Thank you to Yaolin Kung Fu Association for the fantastic performance.

ART ROOM NEWS

Over the first two weeks of school, every class has been creating a heart for our collaborative

‘Every Heart Needs Art’ mural. Each class focused on a different technique, art form or artist.

The finished mural is wonderful!! Pop into the art room to see it in person.

HELPING HANDS NETWORK-

BECKENHAM

National Apology Day

The Helping Hands Beckenham Team celebrated this event on 13th February 2020 at our ser-

vice. It marks the anniversary of the Apology to Australia’s Indigenous people in the House of Representatives on 13 February 2008 by former Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, apologising for past laws, policies and practices that have impacted on Australia’s First Nations Peoples, partic-ularly members of the Stolen Generations. Several activities were planned around this theme and children were provided with some history of this day.

Weekly Program

The children and educators have been engaged in a huge variety of active and passive games and activities throughout this fortnight. The laser maze and Cricket were SUPER hit. Children helped educators setting up the laser challenge and played cricket game both in the mornings and afternoons. Children enjoyed doing a variety of craft activities, pretend play in the home cor-ner and fashion show, the icy-poles in the shapes of dinosaur, treasure-casket, fruits and train engines were a great success too since every child enjoyed eating these healthy icy-poles made from yoghurt and fruit.

Safety Discussions and Drill

On everyday basis we discussed with children some safety tips. For example, Fire Safety, Stranger Danger, Water Safety and safety around house etc. A fire drill was also conducted to

practice the safety steps. For any inquiry please contact Coordinator (Shivaya) on 0478 398 270 Email: [email protected]
