We encourage all students to attend school every day that it is open. Not only does consistent and regular attendance have positive affects on academic achievement, but school connectedness and a sense of belonging both benefit a student’s wellbeing and mental health. Principal’s report It has been another wonderful and busy two weeks; with the end of term just in sight. Teachers are very busy with many different things that they are working on, including preparing student reports which will go out in Week 10. Students have also been working hard and putting in their best effort with their learning. This morning I spent some time in 1/2P with students sharing their morning writing with me. The students had to write a letter to a friend, making sure that they used at least three time connectives - and boy what a great job they all did! It was wonderful to be able to see and celebrate their success and achievements with them. The Beechwood Way Our sign at the front of the school currently has a message about ‘nice words and kind actions’. Every day at school we are encouraging and rewarding both of these behaviours; teachers model them consistently, as I am sure that parents and carers do also. We are all working together to raise children who can solve issues or problems with others in an acceptable way; using respectful and appropriate language. Recently we have had some instances of students using some extremely inappropriate and foul language in the playground or classroom. Teachers always try to deal with this immediately and act to remind students that our school is no place for foul and disrespectful language. I ask parents and carers to support our efforts here at school by reinforcing this at home and having a discussion with your child/children about the importance of using appropriate language at school at all times. Beechwood Public School’s vision is directly aligned with the values of NSW Public Schools. We are all working to make our school a welcoming and tolerant place and it is important that we all demonstrate to our students and young people how to be respectful problem solvers; a skill that is all necessary for life. https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/policies/values-in-nsw- public-schools

Our sign at the front of the school currently has a message about ‘nice words and kind actions’. Every day at school we are encouraging and rewarding both of these behaviours; teachers model them consistently, as I am sure that parents and carers do also. 2021 Kindergarten enrolments We are beginning to take details of students looking at enrolling at our school for Kindergarten 2021. Please let local families or friends know that they are now able to start the enrolment process by phoning our school office.

Over the past couple of years, the Department of Education has made changes to the enrolment process, which has resulted in a tightening of out of zone enrolment applications. A student whose address falls within the local intake area for Beechwood Public School will be entitled to enrol, in accordance with the policies of the NSW Department of Education. Proof of the student’s residence is required to substantiate the application. A 100-point residential address check (pictured) is used to confirm that the student being presented for enrolment lives within the school’s intake area.

Unfortunately, there are currently no places available for non-local enrolments at Beechwood Public School. This includes siblings of students currently enrolled, who are no longer residing within our local intake area.

Copies of our school enrolment procedures are available on our website: https://beechwood-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ Attendance reminder I want to remind families once more about the importance of students arriving at school on time.

Arriving at school and class on time:

• Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day • Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine • Give students time to greet their friends before class • Reduces classroom disruption

Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.

In Term 3 some parents/carers may be contacted to discuss habitual lateness to school or consistent partial absences. If you have trouble getting your child/children organised and to school in the morning and would like to discuss how we can support you with this, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or myself.
