Elementary Home Study Faith Formation met for their first large group session of the year on Monday, October 24. The theme of the evening was “Kids and Prayer”. The children participated in a different way of praying: Pray-ing In Color. Without using words, but expressing their prayers through designs and color, they created beautiful works of prayer art.

Throughout the world, lighting candles is a sacred ritual. We light a candle for many purposes: to dedicate prayers, remember special intentions, etc.Saint Margaret Parish is blessed to have votive candles in the chapel. Whenever you stop by, we invite you to light a candle for your special intention. It is customary to leave a small donation to help cover the cost.

From the Pastor Well, the elections are done. Now we need to leave it in God’s will. Remember THY WILL BE DONE. May we accept that God is in control and trust in Him, not in politicians.With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we must remember the needy. The little things we feel are un-important are necessary for others, like food. I encourage all to take part in the “Spirit of Giving.” Please donate food. There are a lot of sales out there in the grocery stores. Please take advantage of them and use coupons. As you feed your family, feed another who does not have. Witness your faith.I again ask you if you can consider increasing your Sunday offering by one dollar ($1) more a week, if you have not done so. Every little bit helps.

Re-introducing Beautiful Sounds of BellsSince we are a people of senses, sounds are important in our wor-ship, whether in the quiet of the moment, the singing of a congre-gation, or the sound of the organ. The sound of bells does add to the reverence and the solemnity of the Mass. Most importantly, they highlight in a sensible way the sacred action taking place on the altar. Therefore, we have a tradition that is not only practical but also beautiful.The bell is normally rung at the time of the epiclesis in the Eucha-ristic Prayer. At this point, the priest joins his hands and places them over the bread and wine to be consecrated. He prays for the Holy Spirit to come down upon the gifts so that they may become the Body and Blood of our Lord. The ringing of the bell alerts the congregation to the calling down of the Holy Spirit and prepares them for the consecration that immediately follows.The altar servers will be learning about the ringing of the bells and other altar server updates.. They will be more equipped to serve and pray during the sacred worship, Eucharist.
Incensing The purpose of incensing and the symbolic value of the smoke is that of purification and sanctification. Incense is used dur-ing the entrance procession; at the beginning of Mass, to incense the altar; at the procession and proclamation of the gospel; at the offertory, to incense the offerings, altar, priest, and people; and at the elevation of the Sacred Host and chalice of Precious Blood after the consecration. The priest also incenses the Crucifix and the Paschal Candle. During funeral Masses, the priest at the final commendation incenses the coffin, both as a sign of honor to the body of the deceased which became the temple of the Holy Spirit at Baptism and as a sign of the people’s prayers for the deceased rising to God.The usage of incense adds a sense of solemnity and mystery to the Mass. The visual imagery of the smoke and the smell remind us of the transcendence of the Mass which links heaven with earth, and allows us to enter into the presence of God.We will to use incense in the high feasts Masses in our parish.
CandlesIn our Catholic tradition, in early times as well as today, light has a special significance– Christ. Recall Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. No follower of mine shall ever walk in darkness; no, he shall possess the light of life” (John 8:12) and “I have come to the world as its light, to keep anyone who believes in me from remaining in the dark” (John 12:46).In all, the usage of votive candles is a pious practice which continues today in many Churches. The symbolism does remind us that prayer is a “coming into” the light of Christ, allowing our souls to be filled with His light, and letting that light burn on in our souls even though we may return to other activities.In the Church and the Chapel, our worshipping spaces, we have the Sanctuary Lamp to enable us to experience the presence of Christ Jesus in the tabernacle. We venerate it by deep bowing or genuflecting followed by a silent prayer when we get to our pews/seats.

Some of the individuals which you touched:• Christmas in July – over $36,000 worth of food collected – impacting over 2,300 individuals• Food cards/Gas cards to a number of individuals in crisis• Car insurance for two single moms, working and struggling to get to work• Utility help for pregnant mother, senior citizens, individuals with mental disabilities• Eviction prevention for single mom, single senior citizen• Hotel stays for single moms with children – they ultimately found transitional housing• Medical help for a number of individuals without health insurance or on fixed incomes• Rental help for a woman out of Anna’s House, a young person starting anew and in recovery and a recently, returned vet assisting her ailing parent• Home repairs to enable an ill individual to return home• Rental help, utility help, car maintenance, school supplies and food for several parishioners• Rental help and budgeting assistance for senior citizen• Stepping Out of the Shadows event – over 50 individuals gained insight into how to talk to their loved ones concerning addiction and received resources for future help

Campaign for Human DevelopmentThe collection for CCHD provides funding for groups that bring hope to the poor in the United States. CCHD’s grants improve education, support economic development, and create af-fordable housing in low-income neigh-borhoods. Help us continue to defend human dignity and build communities of solidarity. Please give to the CCHD Collection next weekend, November 19-21.

Next Sunday is Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the church year. The choir anthem for that day will be my setting of Delores Dufner’s hymn text “Who Is This Jesus.” I have written music for eight of Sister Delores’ texts that have been published by several sa-cred music publishers. I find her lan-guage refreshing. If you wish, you can Google the title along with my name, and you’ll find the publisher’s website where there’s a recording to listen to. Who is this Jesus, whose voice we have heard, Whose actions reveal and illumine God’s word, Whose stories surprising new insights impart, Whose Gospel is joy for the humble of heart?
Who is this Jesus, whose light we have seen,Whose shining in splendor turns barren earth green, Whose rising in glory prevails over death, Whose Spirit of wisdom gives beauty and breath?
Who is this Jesus, whose love we have known,Whose hunger and pain were as real as our own, Whose power and compassion are with us to heal, Whose life in abundance we share in this meal?Jesus is human, our flesh and our blood, But also the image and fullness of God.This Jesus is Christ and on him we depend, Our solid rock center, beginning and end.

Dei Verbum—The Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Reve-lation—remains one of the foundational teachings of the Second Vatican Coun-cil. Re-registration for School Year 2017-2018 Re-registration form and $50 fee will be accepted beginning December 1, 2016.Re-registration materials for School Year 2017-2018 will be sent home via email November 14. The forms will also be available on our webpage and in the main offices at both campuses.Note to Preschool Parents: If you are requesting a change in class placement for next year for your pre-schooler or are registering a new sibling for these classes, bring your re-registra-tion to the ES Campus Main Lobby early on December 1. Session placements are made on a first-come/first-served basis. We will begin accepting forms at 7:30 am.Deadline for forms and re-registration fee is Monday, December 12. The Pivotal Prayers Series The series is held on the second Sunday of the month from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in the Adult Education Center. On Sun-day, December 11 we will study St. Catherine of Siena: The Mystic. Is the physical world all there is? Is science the only path to ascertaining truth? St. Catherine of Siena witness-es to a higher world beyond the ma-terial. Though the fourteenth century mystic never studied theology, and never learned how to read or write, her life constitutes a powerful chal-lenge to the flattened-out secularism of our time. Mercy and The Journey of Christian Discipleship - Week 2Join us on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00 pm in the Callahan Cen-ter as we continue to discuss the relationship between mercy and our lives as disciples of Christ.
