The return of titular anti-hero Max Payne comes more than nine years after the release of Max Payne 2 – with Max Payne 3 set eight in-game years after the events of the second game. This older, world-weary Max has moved on out of New York City, but his troubled past and knack for finding future trouble have seemingly moved with him to the new setting of São Paulo, Brazil. Max is working as a glorified bodyguard for the affluent Rodrigo Branco and his family. When Branco’s wife is kidnapped by one of São Paulo’s street gangs, Max must delve into the city’s criminal underworld, confronting warring gangs with his own special brand of justice while uncovering the truth behind these events.Even though former developer Remedy is no longer involved, Max Payne 3 will still uphold all the series’ ideals. Modern gameplay mechanics like a cover system and an over-the-shoulder camera will feature, but at its core, Max Payne 3 is still all about gritty, explosive run-and-gun action. Bullet Time returns, allowing you to slow down time at the touch of a button to pick your shots before riddling enemies with a stream of slow-motion bullets. Shooting while dodging makes a comeback as well, so you can look awesome flying through the air in slow-mo while still firing at foes. Once you’ve landed on the ground, you can stay down and still attack enemies in all directions. Cinematic action moments are like interactive cut-scenes which seamlessly transition from one gameplay segment to the next.New to the series is an exciting-sounding multiplayer component, which retains all of the intense action and gameplay mechanics of the single-player arc. Bullet Time is included in the multiplayer as well: when you activate Bullet Time, any players in your line of sight will join you in slow-mo goodness. With a number of exciting game modes on offer (like Gang Wars, in which groups of players form their own gangs and battle each other online in constantly evolving, objective-based scenarios), there’s plenty for series fans and newcomers to be excited about when Max Payne 3 lands this May.

The future of warfare isn’t any different to how it’s been for thousands of years, only there are more advanced toys to bring with you to help level the playing field. According to the Ghosts, “when you’re outnumbered, and the world’s most advanced arsenal is at your disposal, fighting fair just isn’t an option.”Future Soldier takes place in the near future across a number of locations including Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and Norway. The Ghost team, made up of veteran soldiers Kozak, Ghost Lead, Pepper and 30k, is dispatched to track down the source of a dirty bomb that was used to destroy another Ghost team. The group will have to make use of a number of high-tech weapons and gadgets to get the job done.Stealth is the order of the day, but that’s not to say that the game won’t feature a few “run and gun” sequences. The Ghost’s most important tool is their optical camouflage suits, a form of active camo that renders the wearer almost invisible. The characters will still make a noise when they move, however, so players will have to be mindful of their movements. While the player won’t be able to directly control every action of their squad mates, they will be able to line up synchronised enemy kill shots (up to four at a time). The rest of your squad’s actions will be dictated by an advanced AI that lets you lead but will make its own decisions when the time comes.Information gathering is the most important tool for players, both in the single player campaign and in the variety of objective-based multiplayer engagements. Players can deploy scanner grenades to provide a digital read-out of the area; they can pilot quad rotor drones with mounted cameras to see where the next ambush lies; and they can extract vital positioning information from unconscious enemies.The Xbox 360 version will be optimised for use with Kinect. In the Gunsmith tool, which lets players customise their weapons down to minute details, players can manipulate the environment using hand gestures. And, while in missions, players can issue voice commands to their squad mates.

Twenty years have passed since the world of Sanctuary was saved from utter destruction by a hero. The people of Tristram picked up their last frayed belongings and rebuilt the small town close to the site of Old Tristram, leaving the ruins there to remind the many passing-through adventurers of what was lost. New Tristram has prospered, and everyone thought they were home free until suddenly, apparently out of nowhere, a giant falling star crashed into the old cathedral. Soon after, the dead once again began to rise, led by the Skeleton King. Ancient Zakarum tomes foretold of the falling star, and the Horadric scrolls spoke of the dead walking Sanctuary as a sign of the end of days. This swashbuckling action RPG makes its return with improves visuals and a multitude of islands ripe forexploration. The game kicks off after the first Risen, with the game’s hero left a broken man who spends more time in taverns than adventuring. Sea travel is almost impossible with a number of creatures attacking unwary ships. When the hero’s friend Carlos asks him to assist the crew of a sinking ship, the two meet up with their old friend Patty, who claims that her father has found a way to safely sail the waters, and together the three go in search of the man and any chance of adventure.

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2012 once again hopes to bring players the finest virtual hunting experience around, offering a range of powerful hunting rifles and shotguns with which to murder “vicious” animals. Your choices will have much more of an effect on your hunts than ever before as you explore a variety of environments. Take to the high ground to get a better angle for your shots, or take the low-ground route that offers less visibility, but more concealment. Promising the most realistic animal behaviour the series has ever seen, the game will allow you to purchase upgrades for your gear as you progress.

East meets west in this upcoming open-world action RPG set in a rich fantasy world, developed by the creators of action hits Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4. Select your class, customise your character’s appearance and experience an epic journey that offers dozens of hours worth of gameplay. You’ll be accompanied by three AI-controlled party members along the way: one that stems from your main character’s world, and two that are borrowed from the worlds of other players if you’re connected to the Internet while playing.

Nintendo continues to give sports games some love with Mario Tennis Open. This game will allow players to engage in singles or double matches that bend the rules of regular tennis to fit into the Mario theme, with players having powerful abilities that they can unleash during the games. Confirmed playable characters include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario and more, as well as they players’ own Mii characters. Players can perform a range of tennis shots including the lob, topspin, drop shot, slice, and flat shot, and can even make use of the 3DS’s gyro controls.
