Dubai is in ruin. A series of catastrophic sandstorms relentlessly batter the city, forcing its inhabitants to evacuate to survive. Sand can be used as an environmental hazard with which to overcome foes. Sand piled against the tall glass windows of a skyscraper’s atrium, for example, can be piled on top of enemies to silence them forever and save a bit of ammo by shooting the window. Grenades that detonate on sand become impromptu stun grenades, leaving enemies blinded and dazed by the cloud of dust that’s kicked up.

Religion and espionage return to the excellent turn-based strategy on offer in Civilization V with its first full expansion pack, entitled

as, and 13 new buildings to erect.Religion is controlled using a new “faith” resource, with players

includes the ability to construct foreign embassies and engage in espionage against other civilizations (using spies to steal

The third film in the Madagascar series (Madagascar: Europe’s Most

Wanted) will shortly be upon us, and with that comes the release of

the inevitable video game tie-in. The game will follow the story of the

film (and even go beyond it) that sees Alex the lion, Marty the zebra,

Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe as they continue to struggle

to get back home to the Big Apple. Along the way, the group takes

cover in a travelling European circus which they reinvent – Madagascar

style.

The game will feature support for a single player or two players

together in co-op mode, and will take them across Europe to promote

the circus through the completion of a variety of wacky tasks given to

them by the equally out-of-place penguins. The group will perform

bizarre publicity stunts at a number of Europe’s most notable

landmarks. Of course, players can expect all of the series’ famous

characters to be along for the ride, including King Julien, Maurice and

Mort, the chimps Phil and Mason, plus their new circus pals Stefano

the sea lion, Vitaly the Siberian tiger and Gia the jaguar.

The LEGO-themed series of videogames by Traveller’s Tales continue to be churned out with alarming

San Romero High School was a peaceful place, at least, before a rock ‘n’ roll zombie outbreak turned

most of the students into the mindless undead. Worry not, because former student and cheerleading

role of Juliet, making use of her light attacks and gymnastic ability gained by her cheerleading history,

As the official video game tie-in for the London 2012 Summer Olympics, expect to see many of your favourite Olympic events playable in London 2012, so you can compete without having to go through that silly business of having to actually qualify or be any good at sports.Over 30 Olympic events have been painstakingly recreated in digital form for your real-life enjoyment. All will be set in the official Olympic arenas (rendered to their exact specifications, so it’ll be like you’re right there), with London’s iconic skyline acting as a backdrop for your Olympic exploits. For the first time ever in an officially licensed Olympic video game, PS3 and Xbox 360 motion controls will feature in a number of the available events. PlayStation Move and Microsoft Kinect support will feature in events like the 110m hurdles, beach volleyball (Kinect only) and 25m rapid-fire pistol (Move only).In addition to being able to represent your country and win the coveted gold medal in single-player mode, you’re also able to test your skills against your friend in offline, online and Party Play (which allows for the bending of traditional Olympic rules for a more arcade-like experience) multiplayer game modes. Global leaderboards will track your personal stats and medals gained while playing online, adding your medals to your nation’s medal collection and improving your nation’s standing in the leaderboards (high five for South Africa!), turning the game into a sort of global competition that extends beyond just the confines of the actual 2012 Olympics.Gymnastic challenges that will feature in the title include the trampoline, vault, rings and beam. Aquatics includes 100m freestyle swimming, 10m synchronised platform diving and 3m springboard diving. Shooting events featured are the aforementioned 25m rapid-fire pistol and skeet shooting. Track and field offerings include 110m hurdles, 100m, 200m and 400m dashes, high jump, long jump and shot put. Other exciting events available to participate in are archery, Keirin (cycling), weightlifting and kayaking.London 2012 aims to bring the Olympics into the homes of the masses, allowing everyone to engage in the excitement no matter where they may be. Don’t just be a spectator: be a virtual Olympian!
