• Anthony Ogogo is well on the way to recovery and is continuing to exercise his shoulder with the help of his physios.

• Commenting on his current training program, he said: “My shoulder blade's really uncomfortable but I feel, I have my mobility back and my muscles have been strengthened”.

Shoulder Dislocation

-The Shoulder Joint:

• An enarthrodial or ball-and-socket joint.

• The bones entering into its formation are the hemispherical head of the humerus and the shallow glenoid cavity of the scapula .

A shoulder dislocation happens when too much force or pressure is applied to the ligaments connecting the arm to the shoulder as:

1)Sports injuries. Shoulder dislocation is a common injury in

contact sports, such as football, hockey and in sports that may involve falls such as downhill skiing, gymnastics and volleyball.

2)Trauma not related to sports. A hard blow to your shoulder during a motor vehicle accident is a common source of dislocation.

3)Falls. You may dislocate your shoulder during a fall, such as from a ladder or from tripping on a loose rug.

Page 7: C ase S tudy

- Deformation of the shoulder: a bump in the front or back of your shoulder depending on how the bone has been dislocated.

- The normal rounded contour of the shoulder and upper arm is lost, Instead of that the outside edge of the shoulder looks flat or square.

- Instead of the greater tuberosity there is a gap under the acromion.

Clinical feature

Page 8: C ase S tudy

- The head of the humerus may be observed and felt as a large bump in front or behind the shoulder.

- The area is usually extremely tender to palpation and in movement.

- Lost the range of mobility in shoulder.

TreatmentFollow up

•The doctor may manipulate the shoulder to put it back in place By Kcher's technique.

•The doctor may recommend wearing a sling for several weeks.

•Give medication such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) for pain and swelling.
