BEHAVIORS
Behaviors include a variety of personal actions such as the
things we do and say. Just as behavior
influences our beliefs, so too does our environment influence
both.
Ex : the political and social behaviors that he enaged in to
help his people achieve freedom in turnstrengthened his belief that
apartheid (discriminatory pratices against blacks) was morally
and
politically (Mandela)
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Include our social, political, and cultural influences as well
as our particular learning experiences
Just as our cognitive factors influence how we perceive and
interpret our environment, our
environment in turn affects our beliefs, values, and social
roles
Mandela lived in a society based on apartheid wich meant strict
separation of the races, limitedopportunities for non Whites and
the fostering of intense racial hatred. These envirmental
factors
certainly affected mandelas personality development
We can assume that living in such an oppressive environment
strengthened mandelas
determination to get a law degree and to devote his life to
obtaining freedom for all
Banduras social cognitive theory :

Powerful tool for processing and understanding information that
influences personality

We turn this information into ideas, beliefs, values, and
goalsshape, guide, and motivate
our behaviours
Ex : ANC talks about teaches and values fighting for freedom.
This information motivates its
members to become assertive, self confident, and determined

Observational learning (observe parents, brothers, sister,
peers, friends, and teachers)
Watching, imitating, and modelingprovides own reward for
developing some belief or
performing some behaviours
Ex : observational learning allows the young black menimitate
and model the personality
characteristics of adult role models in the ANC

Purposeful behaviour
Our capacity to anticipate events, plan ahead, and set goals
influences our personality
development, growth, and change
In fighting for freedom, the young black men will organize, plan
marches, and develop
political strategiesencourage them to become responsible,
confident, and energetic
4. Self analysis
Powerful internal processto monitor our own thoughts and
actions
Deciding to change our goals or valuesaffect our personality
development
Young black men use self analysis to check their personality
progress as well as to reward
themselves for meeting goals of the ANC
