Significant advantages accrue to operators who move

forward with CDM A2000 1X. First, the technology offers

improved voice capacity and higher data rat es over existing

IS-95A/B technologies, supporting a voice capacity

improvement up to tw o times and data rates up to 153 Kbps.

And because CDM A2000 1X is backward-compatible, it

allow s a cost-effective migration from IS-95A/B to 1X .

This means you can upgrade to 1X w hile maintaining your

current infrastructure and handset investments, thereby

reducing capital outlays.

In addition, CDMA2000 1X provides a choice of overlay or non-

overlay configurations, allowing you to im plement the 1X

RAN , effectively reducing your cost of ownership. Additionally, the SDU provides significant

value by reducing network complexity, improving operability, improving network availability

and establishing a platform for future enhanced services.

Bec au se o ur BTS solutions support both IS-95A/B and CDM A2000 1X standards, you

gain the flexibility to support both subscriber types with the same hardware. If youre

an existing M otorola operator, you can upgrade your SC 4812 BTS series to support

CDM A2000 1X w ith simple, cost-effective board and softw are upgrades, result ing in a

faster time-to-market and reduced cost of ownership. Lower ownership costs are also

achieved through an eff icient transport network that reduces your BTS backhaul-

related expenses.

The cost of ow nership advantages extend to the Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN ),w hich provides the interface between the IP-RAN and the data network. Scaling, one of

the key features of the PDSN , provides you with the flexibility to configure the size of

the data network to f it the init ial data offering and grow the netw ork by adding PDSN s

to a cluster of n+1 PDSNs for redundancy.

TAKING OPERABILITY TO A NEW LEVEL

Part of reducing your operational expense includes making it easier for you to operate

your 1X netw ork. Our open network management system includes a suite of products w hich,

w hen used together, provides an effective solution f or planning, operating and optimising a

converged netw ork of voice and data. Through intuit ive graphical user interfaces, youre

able to monitor fault, state and configuration events and information on each of the RAN

components. Our integration of radio and IP as well as 2G and 1X components into a common

set of management tools has obvious advantages t o both your CapEx and OpEx.

The operability advantages extend to these other aspects of our CDM A2000 1X solution:

IP-based plat forms such as the SDU , combined w ith the IP transport netw ork, allow

resources to be shared across multiple BSCs. This reduces or eliminates the need for

managing complex interconnections and handoff functions between BSCs, greatly

reducing network complexity and improving overall system operability.

The distr ibuted nature of the architecture eliminates hierarchical dependencies between

network elements, reducing potential bottlenecks within the network. Operational activities

aimed at managing these bottlenecks, such as BTS reparenting, can be eliminated.

Remote channel activation allows you the abil ity to upgrade the channel capacity at

the BTS remotely through software activation. This eliminates the manpower costs of

visit ing the BTS for channel expansions.
