What alliances were formed during the Civil

War?• The Allies were Britain And France.• The reason why the south needed

these allies was for supplies.• The Union States were big on

manufacturing and the Confederate States were big on farming they had no supplies.

• The Union States needed no supplies.

Battle at Fort Sumter• This war occurred on April 12, 1861• This battle took place in South Carolina.• The generals of this battle was, Union: Major

Anderson, Confederate: General Beauregard. • The this battle lasted two days WITHOUT any

casualties.• Major Anderson surrendered on April 14,1861.• President Lincon called for 75,000 more troops.

This caused four more states to succeed. • General Beauregard ordered attack on Fort

Sumters.

First Battle of Bull Run•This battle occurred on July21,1861.•It took place at the Occoquan River

which was in Richmond, VA•The Union was under command by

Brigadier General Irvin McDowell. The Confederate was under command by Brigadier General Beauregard.•The Casualties of, Union was,2,896 •The Casualties of the Confederate was

1,982.•Colnel Jackson held Confederate

ground against Union forces allowing Beauregard's troops to gather reinforcements.

The Battle of Gettysburg• This battle occurred on July1,1865 and ended on July3,1865.• This battle took place Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.• The Union Troops were lead by, Major General George Mead.• The Confederate Troops were lead by, General Robert E. Lee.• The Casalities of day one of the Battle of Gettysburg, The

Union Troops were 93,921.• The Casalities of The Confederate Troops were 71,699.• On the first day the Confederate Troops Sent Union Troops

Running.• Robert E. Lee was moving his troops North towards

Philadelphia destroying any Union Troops along the way.• The Most Casualties.• This battle lasted three days.

Second Battle of Fort Fisher!• This battle took place in Wilmington, North Carolina April 12 – 14, 1861• Union Generals: General Alfred Terry, he commanded 9,000 troops And Rear

Admiral David D. Porter commanded 60 ships!• Confederate Generals: Major General W.H.C. Whiting commanded 1,900

troops at the fort And Robert F. Hoke commanded 6,400 troops just north of the fort.

• The Casualties of this war was, Union: 1,338• And the Casualties for the Confederate was, 583• The significance of this war was that Fort Fisher was the only port on the

east coast. Fort Fisher was made of sand. General Terry landed his troops in between Hoke’s troops and Fort Fisher and moved south towards the fort. The Union sealed off this port causing the Confederate’s supplies to stop shipping.

• Hoke didn’t engage

Appomattox Courthouse• This battle took place in

Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia. On April 7-9.

• The General that lead the Union troops was, General Grant.

• And the General that lead the Confederate troops was, General Lee.

• The casualties of this war for the Confederate was, 500 and 27,800 surrendered.

• The casualties for the Union troops was, 164.

• The significance of this battle was that April 7th Grant sent Lee a letter requesting a surrender.

• Lee was waiting for supply trains at the Appomattox Station.

• April 8th Union Cavalry arrived first and burned the supplies. And that Lee withdrew on April 9th .

How did the Civil War effect America’s Future?

• The Civil War made a great impact on our world today. The reason that I think this because without the Civil War African Americans would not have the freedom that we do today. Without the Union winning there would most likely be more and more battle similar to the Civil War until slavery was ended.

The End of The War• The ending of the war was because of the Surrender

of General Robert E. Lee on April 9th at 11:50 am.• It happened after the battle of Appomattox, but after

the surrender there were still minor battles going on around the country.

• The final surrender of the Confederate troops was on June 23, 1865.

The terms on General Robert E. Lee’s Surrender was that Major artillery would be turned over.

Side arms, horses, and mules would remain.No imprisonment for treason.
