Highlights of 2019London Classic Car Show – February 14-17London Classic Car Show – February 14-17The Club once again had a

prominent stand at this prestigious event, held at theExCel London. The Club’s display featured four cars from the1960s and 70s, and Memberswere able to take advantage ofdiscounted tickets for the Friday,Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend of motor racing presenteda wide range of historic classes and the

Club had a display area commanding a fine

view of all the action. Members enjoyed a50 per cent discount on admission ticketsand could drive right into the in-field.

National Concours, Milton Keynes – June 15

Mercedes-Benz UK’s headquarters – an ideal venue.

The Club’s premier concours competitionwas againheld at Mercedes-Benz UK’s headquarters in

2019. Located in Milton Keynes, this venue provideshard-standing for all the cars entered plus a wide range ofother facilities that make for a great day out.As with all Club events, the Concours is open to all

Members, with any model of Mercedes. The competitiveclasses include some for ‘Enthusiasts’– ie everyday carsowned by people who might not have entered a concours before. There is always an Exhibition Classcelebrating anniversaries plus the very latest Mercedesprovided by MBUK, with the opportunity to take test drives.

The Exhibition Class included a lot of interesting carsand MBUK had many of its new models on display,with test drives available in some.

CLK and SLK Day, Essex – Sunday June 30This event featured allmodels of CLK (photo byEric Richardson).

There were also all models of SLK (now SLC).CLKand SLK models from

right across the two rangeswere featured at this informal get together.There are a large number of these cars inthe Club, but as well as the cars there wasa lot to see at this event’s venue – theRoyal Gunpowder Mills at WalthamAbbey. This is a 127-acre, 400-year-old facility that gives a fascinating insight intothe world of gunpowder and all that it has entailed throughout history.

As well as displaying their cars,Club Members taking part enjoyed teas and coffees plus a private buffet lunch.

And there was plenty to see at the Gunpowder Mills.

V-Day – July 14V-Day – July 14

The RAF Museum made an excellentvenue for this event.

The RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire was host to this gathering of Mercedes-Benz models of all

ages and types that had one thing in common – a Vconfiguration engine. Saloons, estates, coupés and convertibles, petrol or diesel, fitted with V6, V8 or V12

engines were display parked in groups according to theirengine types.As with all Club events, all Members, with any

model or age of Mercedes-Benz, were welcome andwere parked adjacent to the main display area, with the Cosford Museum being a great venue for a familyday out.

The Mercedes-Benz Club standat this prestigious event was an

opportunity to see some of the bestclassic car racing in the world, while joining in the celebration of anniversaries for the Fintail models, G-Wagen and R129 SLs.

Held at RAF Cosford, thisevent celebrated 30 years of

the R129 SL. The RAF museum at Cosford has excellent parking onhard-standing and four hangarscrammed with exhibitions and ex-hibits – a perfect venue for this oc-casion. R129 owners are among themost active and enthusiastic Mem-bers of the Club so a great display ofcars was guaranteed. If you are anowner or a fan of these elegantsports cars join the Club to make themost of your car or to find the modelyou dream of.

This year’s E-Class Day washeld at the Buckingham

Railway Centre, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary. AllMembers’ cars were welcome, butthe W210,W211, W212 and W213E-Classeswere display parked. Thisyear an invitation was also extendedto the CLS, E-Class-based, models.Situated just outside Aylesbury,

the Railway Centre provided agreat day of entertainment foreveryone, including train rides, a museum, a restoration shed, a royal

If you tired of the cars there wasplenty of steam action.

dining coach dating from 1901 and a Royal Mail coach. ClubMembers were able to enjoy a special guided tour of the mu-seum and made full use of the caféand a large picnic area.

Classic Motor Show – November 8-10Classic Motor Show – November 8-10

Mercedes-Benz Club Memberswere once again able to

enjoy discounted tickets for this

leading event in the classic car calendar and make use of theMembers’ Café on the Club stand.

The Club’s display featured a rangeof cars from the 1950s, throughmodern classics such as an SLKand a CLK, to a brand new all-electric EQC400.

The Club signed up over 125 new Membersduring the course of the weekend.

The cars featured included this 300SL Gullwing.Its owner collected £500 for charity by inviting visitors to be photographed in it.

The Club’s Technical Team were on hand to answerMembers’ queries.

The display also included an electric car loaned by Mercedes-Benz UK.

It became a greatroad trip in an R107 300SL – see-ing Paddy’s dearly loved 190 plusother Members and their cars on thejourney.In ‘Technical corner’ there is a

look at LED lights and an accountof some bodywork restoration on anR129 SL. All this is in addition to the

Archive developmentsThe Brooklands Control Tower.

The Club’s Archive, which contains an amazing collection of brochures, technical

literature, price lists and photos, as well as theClub’s history, is now well established in offices inthe old Control Tower at Brooklands. The workof ‘digitising’ the Archive contents is well inhand and a website presenting it is now on-line.Club Membership brings you access to all this fascinating material.
