Dear Parents & Carers, 2017 P&C EXCECUTIVE At the P&C Annual General Meeting last week, we were delighted to welcome the 2017 P&C Exec Team: President: Sue Pele (Jayme, Zach & Tara’s mum) Vice– President: Aveen Kerr (Charlie & Emily’s mum) Treasurer: Therese Camm (Loch’s mum) Secretary: Kerri Contini (Benjamin ’s mum) We truly are a blessed school community, to have such a dedicated, passionate, energetic and generous group of ladies, to take on these roles. The positions are all volunteer positions, so are unpaid and the hours these ladies commit to doing these jobs well, are amazing. They are often thankless roles too, despite the many, many volunteer hours the ladies put in, behind the scenes and in public. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge (on behalf of the staff and students) our sincere thanks and deep gratitude to the wonderful, generous exec team who have committed to serve our school for another year. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to our outgoing Vice-President, Tracy Farmer. Tracy has been our P&C Vice-President for the past 4 years and has given 200% to the role, despite maintaining a full-time job and busy family life. Tracy has decided that after 4 years, it was time to re-prioritise (amazing what a new granddaughter will do!) We wish Tracy all the very best. 2018 NASS CAMPING PROGRAM: WE’RE OFF TO CANBERRA! Many thanks to the 133 families who returned their surveys regarding the proposed changes to the NASS Camping Program. This was an excellent response rate, with 45% of our families responding to the survey. The survey results were:

71% in favour of the proposed new camping program, with 29% against.

87% wanted the Canberra/Snowy Mountains camp to be for Year 6 only, with 13% wanting it to be a combined Year 5/6 camp.

82% preferred to travel by bus to Brisbane, then fly to Canberra. 18% preferred to bus the whole way.

Therefore, as of 2018, our camping program will be:

Year 4: Maranatha Camp (3 days, 2 nights)

Year 5: Tallebudgera Camp (5 days, 4 nights)

Year 6: Canberra/Snowy Mountains Camp (6 days, 5 nights)

The P&C will commit some funds towards subsidizing the costs of the Year 6 camp each year, to reduce the costs as much as possible. We (the school) will give parents as much notice as possible, so that you can start budgeting for the camps early and as many children as possible, can attend.

NASS SCHOOLWIDE BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONS For week 10 of Term 1, we are learning about what it means to BE SAFE WHEN ON CAMPS & EXCURSIONS. We do this by: Following adult directions Following the Bus Code of Conduct Wearing the full school uniform Waiting in designated areas We thank you for reinforcing these messages with your child/ren at home. DISCO THANKS Many thanks to our hard-working P&C Exec (Sue, Therese and Kerri) who put in 6 hours each to ensure the Disco was a success on Friday night, and to Aveen for what she did in the lead-up. This was in addition to the many hours spent before-hand organizing the event, catering etc. Of course, they couldn’t do it alone and we also need to extend a huge thanks to all those parents who helped out on the night—your assistance is always invaluable and greatly appreciated, so thank you. We simply couldn’t run events like the discos, without the support of our volunteers. I would also like to extend a huge thanks to Kev (our Schools Officer) for setting up everything for the disco on Friday, and putting it all away this morning, to Lorelle for the massive clean she has to do of the Hall, following the disco, and to the wonderful teaching staff who gave up their Friday night to help out. In the midst of parent/teacher interview season, it’s a big ask, so we appreciate those who were able to come along—thank you! Looks like the Disco raised approximately $2500 to put towards the fundraising for the Hall, so that’s a great boost. Thanks to all families who supported the event, especially to those who stayed at the disco to help out and supervise their own children. P&C MEETING The April P&C Meeting will be held on the first day back after the holidays (Tuesday 18 April, 6:30pm). All interested parents are invited to attend. NB: Members must have attended 2 meetings in a calendar year, to be eligible to vote. HOLIDAY WISHES I would like to take this opportunity to wish our NASS family a very happy and safe vacation. Several classes are currently undergoing a head lice outbreak and we ask all parents to be vigilant about checking, and treating their child’s hair if necessary.

TUCKSHOP NEWS: Special this week is ‘Hot Dogs’. With Felicity away this week, I'm asking for any volunteers who have some spare time to please pop in and help. Also to say hello and goodbye (last week of school, and my last week in Tuckshop too). UNIFORM NEWS: Hoping all the people who have been waiting on their orders for dresses, have now received them (I did make a lot of calls and sent many messages last week). The following orders are awaiting collection at the office: Beale, Bonnington, Calabro, Chambers. Our next delivery of Polo's is due mid to late April.

FETE CO-ORDINATOR Due to personal reasons, we now have a vacancy for the 2017 Fete Coordinator to lead the organisation of our North Arm State School Fete which will be held on Saturday 14th October. This is a volunteer role which can be for one person or shared between two. It will have the support from the P&C Executive and lots of volunteer helpers. The Coordinator role helps organise the stalls, program, entertainment and marketing. NASS HALL REFURBISHMENT QUESTIONS

ANSWERED (& HOW TO MAKE A DONATION)

We've had questions from the NASS family community wanting to understand more about the

fundraising for the new hall. This is a project that has taken on it’s own life over the past 2

years. With the vision of NASS principal, Kelly Edgar, and the backing from the P&C, significant

progress has already been made.

Have you had the experience of being ‘squished’ into the hall for parade or not quite been able to

hear? Well, that will be a problem of the past! The plans for the new hall will include more space, a

purpose built stage and performance area, professional sound and audio-visual capacity with

improved acoustics, glass doors replacing the roller doors allowing more light, ceiling fans and a

significantly upgraded and ‘vermin-proof’ tuck shop kitchen (possibly too much information, but the

unfortunate reality of being in such a beautiful rural setting does come with some constant

competition with the wildlife)!

These plans have received broad support from the NASS student and parent community with multi-

ple letters of support. In addition, the P&C has already put aside a significant amount of funds for the

project, so well done and thank you for all the families who have supported to date.

This is a massive long-term project for our school, so it will take an enthusiastic, intensive fundraising

effort to turn the dream into a reality. Now that we have received the support of Central Office to the

tune of $250,000 + to install two large above ground tanks later this year, this will enhance the

possibilities for the Hall.

This means that we can now make the Hall larger, to fit our growing school and meet our growing

needs. It’s no longer adequate for us just to have a sport’s hall and the enhanced facility will result

in a modern hall suitable for our creative and performing arts needs also, for all current and future

NASS students and families.

Of course, we know that we can’t do it all ourselves. We are currently applying for grants to

subsidize the Hall project, which (if successful), will raise approximately 60% of the project costs.

Then it will be up to the school and the P&C, to come up with the remaining 40%. This is why the

P&C agreed two years ago, to make the Hall the major fundraiser over the next few years. (We used

the same approach to have the Library fully air-conditioned and that has been a MAJOR

enhancement to the school facilities, so THANK YOU for that!)

The P&C has set up a dedicated HALL BUILDING FUND account. Donations to this account can by

made by any individual or business, and are fully tax deductible. Families and businesses wishing to
