Smith, Instructor and Manager of the Leica Akademie in North America, award-winning guest photographer Tom Brichta and the Miraval Resort’s very own staff photographer Nancy Schroeder.

From hiking in the Sonoran Desert, to a private Navajo Hoop Performance and Folkloric Dance, we’ll make sure your vacation is educational, effortless and perfectly orchestrated from start to finish.

Leica Instructor: Tom BrichtaTom’s passion for photography started in the early seventies with the purchase of his first SLR. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area a few years later where had a successful wedding a portraiture business. However, he quickly fell in love with the outdoors and landscape photography. From the mid nineties to present, Tom has been the Leica Camera Representative for Northern California, and was recently appointed as an instructor for to the Leica North American Akademie. His workshops have taken him throughout California, around the U.S. and to some of the most beautiful places on earth.

Featured Miraval Photographer: Nancy J. SchroederNancy J. Schroeder has worked primarily in New England and the Southwest capturing landscapes, adventure, art and moment photography. Her professional career has spanned over 20 years including 5 years on Martha’s Vineyard. She has backpacked many long distance scenic trails in North America and documented her travels for lectures and workshops at adventure companies such as: REI, L.L. Bean, & Eastern Mountain Sports. Nancy has been with Miraval since its opening in 1995 leading hikes and challenge activities. In 1997, Nancy designed a program called Photography in Focus which has developed into the current photography program at Miraval. Nancy contributes to local and national publications such as The New York Times.

Fees:$3,599 includes pass for one photography student and 4-nights of lodging, all food + beverage (excluding alcohol) and a $150 spa credit in a shared two-bedroom LEED-certified villa. You’ll enjoy your own king bedroom with private en-suite bathroom and in-ground hot tub. Experience spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, a gourmet kitchen, fire pit and private garden overlooking the Catalina Mountains. Each shared villa reservation includes a pass for one photography student and can accommodate up to one additional guest for an added cost of $750/person.

$7,000 includes all food+beverage (excluding alcohol), a $150 spa credit and 4-nights of lodging in a private 2,600 square foot LEED-certified villa featuring two king bedrooms with private en-suite bathrooms and in-ground hot tubs. Enjoy spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, a gourmet kitchen, fire pit and private garden overlooking the Catalina Mountains. Each private villa rental includes a pass for one photography student and can accommodate up to three additional guests for an added cost of $750/person.

$1799/person - To add an additional photography student pass to your reservation. Includes all food+beverage (excluding alcohol), Leica Akademie workshop activities and a $150 spa credit. Guests not participating in the workshop will be charged $750 (includes cost for all food+beverage and a $150 spa credit).

Depart to Purple Sage Ranch Participants will be capturing portraits of horses, the ranch and how to take movement photos. Please meet outside of the Rain Dance gift shop for pick-up.

Arrive back at Miraval Please use the next few hours to relax and eat lunch before our afternoon session begins. You can also use this time to take advantage of one of the many spa services or wellness classes that are offered at Miraval.

Classroom Session 2 Edit & Critique Location: Hopi Room

Navajo Hoop Dance Performance Participants will have the opportunity to take more movement photos and enjoy traditional dances from a local Navajo tribe. Please meet at Palm Court and the group will go together to the Kiva.

Dinner at Leisure Please make your dinner reservations in advance with the hostess.

Depart for Mission San Xavier del BacA National Historic Landmark and the oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church’s interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. Please meet outside of the Rain Dance gift shop for pick-up. Boxed breakfasts will be provided to you on the shuttle.

Arrive back at MiravalPlease use the next few hours to relax and eat lunch before our afternoon session begins.

Classroom Session 3 Final Edit and Critique Location: Hopi Room

Depart to Catalina State Park Participants will return to their morning location to shoot in the afternoon light.

USEFUL INFORMATIONMIRAVAL – TUCSON, ARIZONA

Spa & Golf Appointments: All spa reservations, consultations and tee times should be made as far in advance as possible, as appointments tend to fill up quickly.

Alcohol: Alcoholic beverages such as wine, beer, and mixed drinks are available from 10am-5pm at the pool and from 3:30pm onward at the lounges. Please keep in mind that massage therapy can intensify the effects of alcohol. Also, please be aware that you will be charged for alcoholic beverages, as they are not included in the per diem charge.

Residence Amenities: Just a few amenities include a private entry courtyard with water feature, two in-ground hot tubs (one off each bedroom suite), outdoor fire pit, steam shower and enclosed outdoor shower in the master bathroom.

Swimming Pool and Hot Tub: In addition to the pools and hot tubs available throughout the resort, your residence features two in-ground hot tubs, one off of each master suite.

Safes: We strongly recommend storing personal belongings in the in-residence safe.

Housekeeping: Exclusive Resorts offers daily cleaning and a daily linen change. If you have any specific housekeeping requests, please let your Exclusive Concierge know rather than communicating them directly to the housekeeping staff.

Laundry: There is a washer and dryer in residence for your convenience. In addition, Miraval provides laundering services upon request. Dial 5179 to schedule laundry pick-up, or contact your concierge. All items collected by 8:00 a.m. will be laundered and returned to you by 6:00 p.m.

In-Residence Telephone Access: From the residence phones, you can dial any extension within the resort directly. To get an outside line, you must dial 9 and then the number, including the area code. Further instructions for making outgoing calls from the house phones can be found on the phone cradle and in the resort information binder.

Local calls within Tucson are free of charge. You will be charged $.50 per minute for all non-local in-state calls made from the house phones. You will be charged $.75 per minute for all long distance calls and $1.00 per minute for all international calls made from the house phones.

Cell Phone Usage: At the request of their guests, Miraval has instituted strict limitations on cell phone use at the resort. Cell phones are not permitted anywhere at the resort outside of your Villa, with the exception of the central courtyard and parking areas. Cell phone reception in your residence may be inconsistent, so if you need to use your cell phone to make a call, we recommend doing so from the parking areas.

Internet Access: Complimentary WiFi Internet access is available. If you have difficulty connecting to the Internet, contact your concierge.

Gratuities: Miraval Resort has a no tipping policy; tips are neither expected nor accepted. The excellent staff awaits only your compliments and suggestions.

There are computers available in the main lobby—adjacent to the Palm Court—where you can check your email and surf the Internet free of charge.

Residence Rules: Exclusive Resorts does not permit smoking or pets of any kind in club residences.

Fine DiningCactus Flower: The Cactus Flower’s menu features items inspired by cuisine from around the world, including everything from coconut-crusted sea bass to chicken flautas. Every course is a delicious blend of vivid flavors and healthy ingredients. In 2012, Miraval released their first cookbook filled with recipes for various menu items enjoyed at the resort.

Wine: Wine is available by the glass at dinner each evening. If there is a specific wine you would like to try that is not listed by the glass, you are welcome to order a bottle. Because you cannot take unfinished bottles of wine from the restaurant to your residence, your server will mark unfinished bottles with your residence number and store them for future meals. Please note that you will be charged for wine; alcoholic beverages are not included in the per diem fee.

Portions: Cactus Flower serves fabulous meals in controlled portions. However, you are welcome, even encouraged, to order additional portions of anything on the menu that interests you. The pre-determined portion sizes can be used

as guides for learning portion control if you like, but that is entirely a personal choice. It’s quite common for guests to order multiple entrées, or to order multiple servings of one entrée they particularly enjoy.

Casual DiningOasis: Open seasonally from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, Oasis is located at the main pool and serves complimentary smoothies, juices, and other light snacks.

Palm Court: Open from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, the Palm Court serves complimentary espresso drinks, smoothies, juices, fruit, breakfast breads, wraps, muffins, cookies and other snacks.

Dining InRoom Service: Miraval’s Cactus Flower restaurant offers guests a wonderful dining experience, combining truly amazing gourmet cuisine with picturesque views and cozy decor. However, if you prefer to dine in your residence, your concierge can make arrangements. An additional charge of $25.00 per delivery applies for 1-2 people, and $50 per delivery applies for 3-4 people.

Cooking Demonstrations: Cooking Demonstrations are offered at lunch three times each week as part of the daily schedule. Miraval’s excellent chef hosts cooking demonstrations several times during the week. A list of the specific dishes being prepared each day during your stay can be found in the special events brochure provided upon check-in.

Swimming: Miraval offers guests two heated (approximately 80° F) outdoor pools. The main pool, located just outside the spa, is a tri-level pool with several seating areas and a snack/coffee bar. There is also a large lap pool adjacent to the BodyMindfulness Center. Whirlpools can be found in the spa and at the tri-level main pool.

Yoga and Meditation: The Agave Center at Miraval offers daily yoga instruction at all levels. You are always welcome to make use of the facility on your own as well. Yoga classes at the Agave Center are open attendance. Daily meditation classes are offered at the Agave Center as well.

Spa and Fitness CentersThe Spa at Miraval: The Spa at Miraval embraces a holistic philosophy toward healing and pampering guests, meaning that all treatment is intended to restore you from the inside out. From the signature Hot Stone Massage to Aqua Zen Therapy, you’re sure to find something to tantalize you.

We recommend booking spa treatments at least one month prior to your arrival as spa appointments tend to fill up quickly and availability can be an issue. Your concierge is happy to answer any questions you have about treatments and provide recommendations that suit your specific needs.

Body-Mindfulness Center: Miraval’s BodyMindfulness Center is fully equipped with weight and cardio equipment and free weights. The facility also offers a lap pool and two private rooms (Gecko & Roadrunner) where various fitness classes are held daily. Open 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

Agave Center: The Agave Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily and hosts daily yoga at all levels and occasional mindfulness workshops.

Golf and TennisGolf: A round of golf at several of Tucson’s renowned courses can be arranged. Contact your concierge for transportation options as well as to reserve tee times, lessons or on course coaching. Rental clubs are available.

Tennis: There are two lighted tennis courts on-site at Miraval. Contact your concierge for information about instruction. Complimentary equipment rentals are available.
