    2. The teacher will start talking about a compass rose and how it has moredirections than just north, east, south, and west. It also has northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest.

    3. The students will create their own compass rose using the template on theworksheets titled Your Compass Rose. The students will read and follow thedirections.

    4. As this is happening, the teacher has already created a map for the students touse and is putting it up for students to see. Once the students have completedmaking their compass rose, the teacher will tell them the instructions. I have

created a map for you look try to find objects on. You will come up in groupsand find the objects and tell me in which direction they can be found. If yourgroup is not up at the map you will be working on the different worksheets atyour table. Each group will take turns coming up to the map.

    5. There are three worksheets for the students to complete while at their desks:Reading a Map, Am I Turning in the Right Direction? (problems 5-8), andCan you make a pretend compass?

    6. CLOSURE: The teacher and the students will go over the other four cardinaldirections. The class will then go over the answers to big map. If the studentshave any problems with the directions, the teacher will address them now.

    F. Assessment:

What will you use to measure student understanding?

The teacher will use the completed worksheets to measure studentunderstanding. The teacher will also make sure the students are using thecorrect direction to locate objects on a map.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from thelesson.

If the students can successfully complete the worksheets, then they have anunderstanding of the concepts of the lesson. If they are able to locate anddescribe the proper location of objects on the map, they will have anunderstanding.

    G. Reflection: (answers to assignment specific questions)

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you toteach?

I think it will be the easiest to teach the other four cardinal directions. The

students have already learned the main four, so, they should be able to

    learn the others.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

I think it would be most challenging to teach the students to locate objectson a map. They may have never used a map before, so it may be something

    new to them.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

This lesson has a little bit of map reading. You can follow up or extend this

lesson by having students read maps.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

The teacher can spend one on one time with the students who do not grasp

    the concepts.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

Nothing because hopefully it was explained well

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult

    part?

The most difficult part was trying to figure out what the students sitting at

their desks would do. They cannot just sit there while they wait their turn to

    go up to the map.
