    5. CLOSURE: Refer to Review/Assess from TE p. 161and ask students:

    a) In what ways are needs and wants different?

    b) What are the costs and benefits of making a buying choice?

    c) Collect the worksheets.

    F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

Assessment will be from class discussion and worksheet.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.

Students will show understanding of what is given up when choices are made bydiscussion and completion of choices worksheet.

    G. Reflection:

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

The completion of the student worksheet will be the easiest part of this lesson, because it is independent student work.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of this lesson will be explaining to second grade studentsthe differences between want and need and how to choose between the two. Iknow it is still difficult for me to make choices between what I need and want.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

I will use TE pages 162 and 163 regarding the folktale The Milkmaid and her wantsand needs.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

I will use the activity on page 160 where students make labeled picture cards andthen divide them into piles of wants and needs. Afterward, they will describe their reasons for each. I can do this as a group activity with students that did not graspthe concept.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

I think this lesson should work well. I might need to review wants and needs at alater date to ensure that students grasped the concept.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?

The most difficult part was tying in the standard to the assessment. I originally wasgoing to use the prediction worksheet that was included in the teachers edition, however, using that as an assessment did not reflect covering the standard. Iended up creating a worksheet which modeled Sallys experience in the teachersedition. I felt this worksheet assessed the standard better than the predictionworksheet.
