In a Still Small VoiceIf you were to walk into the sanctuary here at Concord Trinity on a

Sunday evening, you would notice a

    very different worship service taking

place. There would not be very muchlighting, the projector screen would be

off, and you would not hear the sound

system humming through the speak-ers. Yes, it is safe to say that all of this

is a change from our morning wor-

ship, but what is the purpose of it all?

    The Reflective Service serves

many purposes, but I would say that itcan all be summed up in one word: lis-

tening. During our time of prayer, we

listen to each other as we lift up waysGod has blessed us or burdens with

which we are troubled. We listen andbring it to God together. I have seen people reach out to those who re-

quested prayer, even after the service is over; a sign that we are trulylistening to our brothers and sisters.

While scripture is read, we are listening to Gods Word, which has

been passed down to us through many generations. Then, after the

scripture, comes the most challenging part: a time of silence. Honestly, the first time you experience total silence in a sanctuary with a group

of people, it can feel like it lasts for years. But after we adjust, we real-

ize that this is our time to listen to God. It is so difficult in this world to

find time to listen to what God has to say, but it is also so vital to our

journey with Him. In a time of silence, we have the chance to stop wor-rying about tomorrow and focus our minds and hearts on the Almighty.

Only then, are we truly giving God the chance to examine our heartsand speak to us through His word.

If you long for that quiet place to give God a chance to speak, lookno further than this Reflective Service. The time has been created for

you. Come join us in this truly unique experience at 6:00 pm every

    Sunday evening.

    Successful Food Drive!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! To theConcord community and Concord Trinity mem-bers who made the September community fooddrive a success.

One thousand bags were placed on frontporches of homes located off Baptist ChurchRoad,. and over 1,600 can goods were col-lected. Thats an average of 1.5 cans goods perhousehold.

Isnt it great to know the Concord community supports the effortsof Concord Trinity? All can goods were placed in Fellowship Hall;and during one Wednesdays Alive, a group gathered to fill 47food bags for families who come in during the week asking forfood assistance. The church office staff greatly appreciates thetime that was put into filling the bags and feels great about being

able to help families who come in for help by giving them a fullbag of items to be used to prepare a balanced meal for theirfamilies.

Many thanks to the 40 plus people who helped make this first community drive a success.

    Good News Education Announcements

October: Trick-or-Treat for UNICEFWhat is it? This very special program began in

    Philadelphia in 1950 when kids

collected money in milk cartons tohelp children after WWII. Today,

kids all across the U.S. turnHalloween into an opportunity to

give children everywhere accessto basic necessities.

How does it work? We suggest putting this boxin the center of your kitchen table, or wherever

you spend the most time together as a family.

The calendar on the back page of the

ParentLink newsletter has fun daily activitiesto help you learn more about children aroundthe world, the UNICEF program, and suggestions

for donations. It will provide creative ways to

appreciate together the blessings your familyhas, and give you a chance to help other

families around the world. ParentLinknewsletters are available from your childs

Sunday School teacher or from the Educationbulletin board across from the Nursery.

What do we do with the box? Bring it toSunday School each week in October. Well have

a special noisy-offering timewhen well collect the coins from

the boxes. This money is tallied

weekly and recorded on the chart

on the bulletin boards across fromthe nursery and in the lower level

hallway. Our goal is to raise $150.

Be sure to check the chart each Sunday!

A Note from Debbie . . .Every four years, the United Methodist Church

    sponsors a nation-wide, week-long Conference on

Childrens Ministry. These conferences provide a chanc

to hear the latest ideas in Childrens Ministry and

discover what other UMC churches are doing. This year

conference was held in July in Indianapolis.

This year, I had the honor of being selected to

present two of the workshops. One workshop, entitled

    Special Celebration Sundays

shared how to plan and prepare all of

    the great intergenerational and

    special celebrations we have at

    Concord Trinity. We covered Earth

    Day, Grandfriends Day, Back-to-

School Sunday and International Sunday School.

The second workshop was Incorporating Children in

Worship, and it caught on like wildfire! Christian

educators from all over the United States (literally!) ar

stille-mailing me for more information about our

Childrens Worship Pockets. More and more churches a

    realizing the importance of including

children in the full worshipping body of

    the congregation. Concord Trinity UMC

definitely at the head of the pack in

bringing children to worship and our

    whole congregation should be

applauded! Every word of welcome, smile, and kindness

that you show a child in worship brings them one step

closer to a life-long commitment to worshipping God in

    community.

It was such an honor to present workshops at this

conference, and I was very proud to share what

wonderful things are taking place in our congregation.

Thank you to all of you for your inviting, caring, and

nurturing ways with our children. Concord Trinity is o

the map nationally as a great place to help children grow

in faith. THAT is something to rejoice about!

Trunk or Treat Party! Saturday, October 31st

Come and join your friends at church on Saturday, October 31, from 3:30-5pm for some tailgating, some trunk-or-treating, some spaghetti, and someIntergenerational fun! Our goal is 3-fold:

To provide a safe place to trick-or-treat for our youngest disciples. To provide a warm tailgating fellowship experience for adults. To mix and mingle with folks of all ages.

How do we do this? First, we encourage all adults to register for a FREE park-ing spot. (The registration is for organization only.) From the parking spot, adults can decorate their cars and provide candy and goodies for our childrenright out of the trunk of their car! Children interested in dressing up and

trunk-or-treating will also need to register, so that we can provide a numberof children adults should plan for candy-wise. Adults can set up lawn chairsand watch the dressed up children go from car to car, having a Halloween experience in a safe place they

trust. In the middle of the lot will be tailgating games, like washers, bag toss, etc, as well as some old carni-val favorites like the Cake Walk, bobbing for apples, etc. See you there!
