Evaluating My Digipak

When creating our Digipak we felt it was particularly important tomake it reflective of the music industry. There were several

influences that we discovered to eventually combine and result in

our final digipak (above).

Colour Scheme- I wanted the digipak for our artist to be genrespecific (conform to the genres artists examples) thus we

researched Jake Buggss albums and liked the warm colours that

were included on the front cover of his new album- Shangri La. Asyou can see on our front cover we included a similar yellow colour

palette as we felt it suited the style of our artist and corresponded

with the video as well.

Graffiti Style- One thing that was important when ensuring ourmedia products either conformed or challenged the regular

conventions of our Indie genre was to research different genres

throughout the last 5o years- we particularly liked the graffiti style

cover of Madonnas single Celebration thus we felt it would work

well on our digipak. Despite it perhaps originates from either the

pop/ hip-hop genres we felt it was important and vital to include a

few features that perhaps challenged the expected conventions of

an Indie digipak.

The Photo Idea- Again, when we were looking into our own indiegenre to gain inspiration for our digipak, we came across this cover

for Rizzle Kicks single When I was a youngster we particularly

liked the idea of having old baby/young pictures of the artist

included within the digipak. However, when discussed we came to

the conclusion that the photograph would look more effective on

the inside alongside a message from the artist. Furthermore, I feel

this idea added a real authenticity and individuality to the digipak.

A few others ways in which our Digipak conforms with real mediaproducts within the genre are- Consistent Fonts throughout,

Barcode & Record Company logo on the back cover, decorated

discs and a simplistic spine.

Evaluating My Advert

When creating our Advert we felt it was principally significant to make itcontemplative of the music business. There were numerous inspirations thatwe learned, which coupled and helped t produce our final Advert (above).

Background- From looking at similar artists within the genres advertisements,we discovered that Mise en scene was particularly important. Tom Odells

poster for his album, Long Way Down sees him in a wet cobbled street; we

attempted to replicate this front cover to conform to the sort of posters and

locations which appeared within the Indie genre.

Artist Position- Another aspect we discovered from the Odell poster was thatin the Indie genre it is common for the artist to be in the foreground of the

poster, we ensured that when took this photograph for the advertisement we

positioned our artist accordingly.

Costume- another Artist we found influential to research, was Bombay BicycleClub, in particular their advert for their 2012 Tour. The M.E.S that appeared in

this photograph helped us to plan what we wanted our artist to wear\r on the

shoot of our advertisement, notice we managed to replicate the stereotypical

scruffy but trendy style.

Text- We noticed that in the Bombay Bicycle Club poster the text wasincorporated into the background, thus, in an attempt to conform to the

genre we placed our artist within we did the same. The graffiti idea continued

on from the digipak idea as we felt it was particularly genre-like to have a

sense of continuity between both.

Finally, the last way in which conformed to the Indie genre when we producedour digipak was that we included reviews, as you can see in the advert for The

Drums, there are several reviews from magazines etc. We wanted genre

specific magazines to appear on our advert to ensure its authenticity thus we

NME and Rolling Stones Magazines were selected.
