Mission

Our mission is to continuously set standards in postgraduate medical education and to foster the sharing of medically guided expertise in a worldwide network of healthcare professionals to improve patient care in trauma or disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

The AO principles of fracture management

Early and safe mobilization and rehabilitation of the

injured part and the patient as a whole.

Preservation of the blood supply to soft tissues and bone by gentle reduction techniques and careful handling.

Fracture fixation providing absolute or relative stability, as required by the “personality” of the fracture, the patient, and the injury.

Fracture reduction and fixation to restore anatomical

relationships.

Scientific lectures will provide you with contemporary knowledge on trauma of the orbit and the skull base and also with treatment of tumors in this region. The fo-cus will be on the interdisciplinary management in this region. Hands-on-cadaver laboratory training will ad-ditionally provide a unique opportunity to perform the different approaches to the orbit and skull base region.

Course description

Goal of the courseAfter the course, participants should have:

• An improved understanding of the complex anatomi-cal structures of the orbit and the skull base.

• Knowledge on current concepts in management of orbit and skull base lesions.

• Understanding of the importance of the interdisciplin-ary management in this region.

• Enhanced their surgical skills in a variety of orbit and skull base approaches.

• Discuss the problems, complications and intraopera-tive difficulties that can result when operating in this region.

Course objectives

Ophthalmology, ENT surgery, Neurosurgery, Oral and maxil-lofacial surgery, Specialist, Residents, Head & Neck surgery, Plastic surgery.

Topics of the course will be taught in three main ways. Comprehensive lectures will concentrate on the under- standing of the orbit and skull base region. Practical ses-sions with Hands-on cadaver will teach a step by step introduction of the different approaches to the orbit and anterior skull base region followed by an on-site demon-stration. Participants will exercise the dissection under the coverage of the faculty. Discussions will be held throughout the course to link the lecture material and practical skills taught with the problems encountered by the course par-ticipants in their individual practice.
