THE GREETER Newsletter of the Florence Welcoming Club— 25th Anniversary Year
A Message from the President:
Introducing …
Shawna Westervelt
1. How long have you lived in Florence? About 7 months (since the first of July). 2. Where did you move from and why?> I moved from Charleston, SC where I have been since I gradu-ated from The Citadel in 2005. Then I got married in June of 2011. My husband got a job in Lake City so here we are! 3. Tell us about your family. Right now it is just my husband and I enjoying the newly-wed life. My folks live in Denver, CO (where I grew up). I also have one older brother who is married with two adorable children (he is also in Denver). 4. What activities do you enjoy doing? My husband and I are completely addicted to swing dancing. In fact that is how we met! We dance and teach the Lindy Hop, the Charleston, Balboa, and a few other Jazz Era dances. They are so much fun! We travel almost every weekend to attend an event or teach if we have the op-portunity. I started dancing about 5 years ago and I haven't been able to stop since! 5. How did you learn about the Welcome Club? After being in Florence for a few weeks I decided that I needed to get involved with something....but I didn't know what. So I got online to the Florence calendar and saw something about an ice cream social. And since free ice cream was something that I could not pass up I came! 6. Tell us about your participation in the Welcome Club. I regularly attend the knitting club. This is great because I previously had no clue how to do it but eve-ryone was really nice and gave me everything I needed to start! I also sometimes have a meal with the Lunch Bunch if I am able. It's been a little while since I've gone to the coffee club but I try to get some caffeine with them on occasion. :-) 7. Do you have any advice to share with new members that may help with their transition? Pick a few groups to get involved with and give them a shot....even if you normally would not. I never thought I would be a knitter but I am having so much fun and have made some great friends. Don't be afraid to try something new. Welcome Shawna!
Hey There! It was great to see new faces in February! What a Great Speaker we had! Kara from Hapi Balance sure showed us a thing or two with the Hula Hoop! She also taught us how to relax and stretch (Gentle Yoga) while we were sitting in our chair! Priceless! Thank you Kara! We also had Deana Strickland come and talk to us about Camp Rae, our Charity for the rest of the year. I know things are tight but I really think there is a real need to help these special needs children get the therapy they need in a more fun way. Please help by bringing your change and dollars to our next meeting or your club ac-tivity. Our 50/50 will also help! I took our check in the amount of $267 to the Cupid Change Celebration. They thanked us so much and I am thanking you for all your help! The Florence Welcoming Club did a great job! I am thinking Spring Cleaning! Now is a good time to go through your house and find some treasures to put in our May auction. It is also the time to start thinking for next year. Anyone interested in leading one of our groups or possibly being on the board? Let one of our board members know as soon as possible. I would like to challenge all of our members to bring a guest to our next meeting. Everyone would like to SAVE MONEY!! Come and listen to how Tracy uses coupons to save money! See you at the March meeting! Cindy
Now in its 25th year, the Florence Welcoming Club introduces newcomers to one another and helps them become involved in the community. If you are new to Florence, we welcome you and hope to get to know you. At our next meeting Tracy Count will be presenting a short primer on couponing. It’s on Tuesday, March 6th at 7:00 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word, 1900 Second Loop Rd. Florence

MAY AUCTION & BAKE SALETuesday, May 1st
It is not too early to be thinking about donations for the May Auction. Gently used items such as household items and décor, plants, jewelry or books usually sell well. The live auction hasbeen the beneficiary of services such as mending, locksmithing, jewelry making and special occasion cake baking. The proceedsfrom this fund raiser allows us to make a donation to theLutheran Church of the Incarnate Word who so graciously lets ususe their meeting room each month for the General Meeting onthe first Tuesday September to May.
