Fremantle School Holiday Guide

Arts and crafts

Sun-dye Fabric Fun

Collect interesting shaped shells, rocks, sea weed from the shore

and beautiful leaves, flowers or seeds pods. Then we will use the

summer sunshine and your little collection of treasures to print

incredibly gorgeous botanic or sea inspired prints on fabric. Price

includes all printing materials and inks.

When: 16 January or 17 January 10.00 am – 1.30 pm

Cost: $80 per person.

Create your own hand-carved stamp set!

This workshop is an introduction to creating your own hand-

carved rubber stamps. Kids are welcome to bring their own im-

ages to be inspired by to create their own set of rubber stamps.

The stamps can be used for a range of printing activities. Price

includes rubber to carve in, 4 wooden handles to mount the

stamps, a muslin bag to hold the set of stamps together, and an

ink-pad.

When: 13 January 2014 or 23 January 2014 10.00 am –1.30 pm

Cost: $65 per person

Draw and print a map of your city!

Be inspired by Magali's quirky way of drawing cities to create a

map of your own neighborhood. Come along with some images

of your house and the surroundings to use to draw your map. In

the afternoon, use your drawing to create a printing plate and

learn how to ink your plate up to create a limited edition of col-

lagraph prints to bring home. Price includes all printing materials

and inks.

When: 20 January or 24 January 2014 10.00 am –2.00 pm

Beach Combing Printing Workshop This workshop encourages a sensory exploration of the environment

around the beach side studio. Take notice of what you can see, what

you can smell, and what it feels like to be by the sea. Kids will spend

the morning by the beach exploring the environment and collecting ob-

jects that have interesting patterns, textures, and colours. We will bring

these objects back into the studio to do some observational drawings

through a monoprinting technique to create unique state prints. This

workshop is perfect for little explorers to have an adventure down by the

sea shore and in the studio. Price includes all printing materials and

inks.

When: 15 or 22 January or 29 January 2014 10.00 am –2.00 pm

Holiday Ceramic Courses at The Clay House Ages 5 upwards

It‘s holiday camp time, the perfect time to create in clay. Join us at The Clay House for ceramic classes, which will get the kids creative juices flowing. Cj Jilek and Tony Wise will be providing small classes with one on one instruction for the students. Our clay classes will engage the clay keeners in expressing themselves through clay, while building new skill sets. Students will have the opportunity to work with all the tools and materials the professionals use while receiving instruction from accomplished ceramics artists. The format of these courses allows for the fledgling artists to create more involved projects. The structure of practicing the techniques learned for three consecutive days helps the students to develop a proficient use of skills they are learning.

Courses include all non-toxic materials, tools, and firing. Students will create objects the first two days and on the final day students will finish their work with bright colourful slips. Staff will then bisque fire, clear glaze and glaze fire the finished work. Mid morning snack will be provided. Work will be available for pick up approximately 2-3 weeks later. Cost: $280.00 with 10 available spaces each session.

Sew Your OwnCuddly Animal Lucinda Crimson (6-8 years) Create your very own soft toy while learning simple hand stitching techniques. Clay - Magic Eggs Teresa Richards How many different sizes, shapes and surfaces do eggs have? What hatches from eggs? Discover the fun of clay using a range of hand building techniques and form your own egg and its contents. Your personalised sculptures will be fired and ready to take home two weeks after class. Amazing Monoprints & Daring Drypoint Jo Darvall Learn two fun printmaking techniques – monoprint and dry-point. Monoprint is a great way to be introduced to printmak-ing, it's simple to do and produces a one-off print using ink applied to a plastic surface. Drypoint uses kid-friendly card-board as a print plate which is scratched into. All printing is done on FAC‘s printing press using artist quality paper and non-toxic ink. Wire Sculptures – Figures in Action Gila Cohen Draw and sculpt with wire to make a figure in action which will be mounted onto a colourful base. Animation Club even Aiton Due to popular demand FAC has created an animation club for students who have completed Steven‘s Level 3 Anima-tion workshop. Working as a team, develop your skills and produce a short film complete with a public screening later in the year at FAC. We have split these into two groups. If you have attended Animation Club before you can go straight into Stream 2. If you are new to Animation Club please start in Stream 1.

A day or two for children to create their very own puppet surrounded by other young puppet en-thusiasts. Our School of Puppetry workshops open the world of puppetry up to children between the ages 4-12, with them not only creating a puppet but also seeing our summer show, The Deep and meeting the per-

formers.

One Day Puppet Making Workshop (4 – 6 year olds) A full day of puppet making and learning about puppetry from 9.00am – 3.00pm, with morning tea and lunch breaks. The children will also go to watch the 1pm performance of the current show and have the chance to talk to the cast and crew afterwards. Each summer Penny Lanes Music Workshop hosts their Summer Rock School for the last three weeks of January. Everybody is welcome, there is no experience necessary to join in and have some fun.

You will - Join a rock band and learn how to play music with others. Discover the fundamentals of music, songwriting and performance.

Get work and play with talented local performing and teaching musicians. Get a CD copy of the song your group writes.

You will also be invited to play a concert for your family and friends

Fremantle Prison is WA‘s only World Heritage listed building

and one of the State‘s premier tourist attractions. So why not

The ‗Escape! Tour‘ is an exclusive tour for children aged 5 to

12 years old. Children will visit the sites of numerous dramatic

escapes through the Prison‘s history. Along the way their Tour

gerous escapes from Fremantle Prison.

Fremantle Prison: School Holiday Escape! Tours Ages 5–12

Are your children aged over 12 and looking for adventure? Why not visit Fremantle Prison for a Tunnels Tour.

Children will be provided with a hardhat, overalls and boots before charging their headlamps and locking into the ladder system for a 20 metre descent into the depths below.

They will trek through sections of the labyrinth of tunnels on foot, board a replica convict punt to explore the submerged passageways accessible only by boat and discover original blast holes, bores, oil lamp recesses and artefacts from the days when working in the tunnels was hard labour for prisoners.

When: Everyday – subject to availability Tunnels Tours depart regularly between 9.00am and 3.25pm daily.

Survival Day is acknowledged at the City of Fremantle‘s Australia Day Celebrations. It is a celebration of

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture and communities through music, song and dance.

celebrate what makes Australia great.
