Friends and Neighbors Of FM 1960
February 2020
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Well, we hit the ground running in January 2020! It was a great turnout at our first meeting of the New Year even with a location change! We added new activities and listened diligently to Jackie Bachmeier, CCEI, CFAS, regarding functional longevity and the different phases of primary and secondary aging. Push-ups any-one???
Also, if you know of someone in FAN who goes above and beyond to grow enduring friendships, I would love to hear who they are to present them with our FANtastic FAN mum at our General Meeting.
The Nominating Committee is working towards a slate of officers for 2020-2021. Input is always welcome and encouraged. Call Sue Behnke for more details.
We also are seeking volunteers for the Spring luncheon for 2020. heme suggestions?? Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo, Interna-tional? Plus, our Bylaws are getting a “face lift”.
I look forward to seeing you on February 4.
Bring a friend or two.
Jennifer Banks, President

Seeing disability as a gift inspires young
artist
Combining conservation, creativity and a charming
story about overcoming his personal challenges,
Grant Manier teaches and inspires other children
that “Different is More.”
That’s the name of a book Grant wrote and illus-
trated with his mother, Julie Coy. The story of
Grant, the Jigsaw Giraffe, the book shows children
than differences are positive and should be culti-
vated.
Grant and Julie will talk to FAN members at the
February 4 General Meeting about his eco-art and
their efforts to share his ideas with children
through outreach and demonstrations.
Living on the autism spectrum, Grant discovered
his artistic bent when tearing pieces of colorful pa-
per into small bits, reassembling them into fasci-
nating puzzle pieces to form intricate and colorful
images. He and his mother recognized that activity
was therapeutic, soothing his anxieties and focus-
ing his attention – and behavior – on something
positive: making art!
Autism became his channel to create masterpieces.
Grant collects recycled materials, organized by
color and texture. He sketches an image onto can-
vas, then glues thousands of small bits of recycled
paper to create a colorful image.
Today, he is an award-winning artist, special needs
advocate, author and illustrator. Through their
foundation, Grant’s artwork raises funds for those
with special needs, providing wheelchairs and
hearing aids, summer camp tuition, horse therapy
and more. Selling prints of some of his collages,
calendars and notecards raises money for those
purposes.
FAN returns to its home base this month: Faith-
bridge Church, 18000 Stuebner Airline Drive.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I would like to thank all the FAN ladies who helped make the luncheon a success. Kim Gerrish, our model,’ Claudia Gallagher, Lucy Sanfilippo and the rest of the team that made our silent auc-tion and raffle a big success. Corinne Precup and all of the greeters. Shelley Gross, Jennifer Banks, Cissie Alexander, and Jacquie Stamates for attending our meetings with Raveneaux. Etta Gager and Linda Comeaux for all of the hours it took to do the table assignments and menu set-ups. Our ladies from the line-dancing group were so fun to watch. My friend Ed White for play-ing piano for us. Linda Comeaux and Cissie Alexander also made our name tags and place cards, and Linda Nagel provided our collection boxes. Also, our sponsors, Houston Distributing, Klein Funeral Home and A Splash of Sass. (There are more and I will let Claudia add to the list.) Also, all of the ladies who helped Cissie sell raffle tickets. Most importantly, all of our members and guests who attended the luncheon. Andrea Gross who baked Angel Cookies for our table favors. Jennifer and Claudia who took care of the wine pull which brought in $400.00. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out by name. I have said this many times: It takes many volunteers to make any event successful and our luncheon was no exception. Our Charity picked by Sue Due, Shelley Gross and the members who voted and those who helped us collect sponsors for this very worthy cause. I want to thank our membership for entrusting me to chair this event. It was such a pleasure for me to get to know many of you so much better. I don’t want to leave out Chef Paul and the Raveneaux Staff. They did a great job! Thank you again, Colleen Bradford, Chair Christmas Charity Luncheon Committee

OVERNIGHT TRIP UPDATE
Ever been to a Cowgirls Museum and Hall of Fame? How about a Botanical Garden? Or, the Stock-yards Historical District? You guessed it: we are going to Fort Worth, Texas! Mark your calendar for the last week in April 2020 for a fun experience visiting “cow town”. We will travel in private cars as the Harris County Precinct 4 bus will not take us that far or overnight. If you are familiar with Fort Worth and have any suggestions for places to see or things to do there, please let either Valerie Murray or Sherry Dunn know. More information will follow, but for now, mark your calen-dar and let’s plan to have a few days of fabulous, FANtastic, fun in Fort Worth! A $25 deposit will hold your reservation.

From Charity Committee
This was a very successful year for FAN's charity, Sleep In Heavenly Peace, due to the efforts of many members. Whether you volunteered at the Charity Build Day, bought sheets and comforters, made baskets for the Holiday Luncheon, donated items for the raffle at the luncheon, or made a personal donation, you contributed to this success. Thanks to all of you for your support!
We will need this same energy and support for the charity that is selected for next year.
