In 1946, Harry Hoenselaar patented his ingenious
invention that enabled hams to be spiral-sliced—an
efficient, unique way to prepare quality ham for serving.
He then set out to create the most flavorful, delicious
hams possible, inventing a new glazing process that
added a sweet, crispy coating which retained the
moisture of the ham.
Eleven years later, in Detroit, Michigan, Harry opened
the original HoneyBaked Ham Co.® store, which is still
in operation today.The response was so great that, at
holiday time, local radio stations gave special traffic
reports for the streets near the store.
Today, the HoneyBaked Ham Co. is one of the nation’s
most sophisticated food companies —with an extensive
and varied national distribution network dedicated to
Harry Hoenselaar’s tradition of innovation and quality.
