Learn about fruit tree varieties, how to plant, prune and feed as we plant fruit trees in the children’s garden.

Worm farming for kids (and adults!)Tuesday 7 July, 2-3.30pm Sunbury Library, 44 Macedon Street, SunburyWe’ll teach you to build a worm farm from recycled materials and how to use the type of worm farms that are commonly for sale. You’ll be able to make organic fertiliser for free and kids will get to take home slithery pet worms!

Blind Creek bridge plantingSunday 5 July, 10am-12.30pm Blind Creek pedestrian bridge off Fullwood Drive, Sunbury (Melway 381 H1)

The Friends of Blind Creek are restoring another stretch of the creek near the pedestrian bridge. Free BBQ lunch. Car parking available on Fullwood Drive.

Chooks make excellent pets and, better still, they eat your food scraps and provide delicious eggs! We’ll teach you about feeding, housing, choosing breeds and how to avoid pests and odours. Adults and kids most welcome.

Pickles, preserves and probioticsWednesday 12 August, 6-8pm Sunbury Library, 44 Macedon Street, Sunbury

Discover the science behind good and bad bacteria in your gut. Learn about probiotics, kefir, kombucha, ginger beer, yoghurt and other live culture food and drinks. You’ll get to taste test fermented foods from around the world.

Learn the why, when and how of pruning. We’ll teach you how to prune deciduous fruit trees to maximise yield and reduce pests and disease. Watch pruning demonstrations and then help prune the trees at the garden.

Wildflowers for The Tarnuk Sunday 23 August, 12.30-3pm Friends of Upper Moonee Ponds Creek The Tarnuk, end of Wright Street, Westmeadows (Melway 5 G6)

Community planters will help enhance this patch of native grassland in The Tarnuk through planting with wildflowers. You’ll enjoy delicious Devonshire afternoon tea thanks to the Friends of Upper Moonee Ponds Creek.
