Honoring Christ by serving the needs of children and families

In the midst of the Toy Shoppe they stood -- the most lively and adorable little elves you’ve ever seen -- ready, able, and willing to assist every single mom who came to shop at the annual Sheridan House Christmas Toy Shoppe!

“Elves?” you ask. Yes, as hundreds of single moms crowded the halls at our Toy Shoppe this past December, Arianna, Michael, and Wyatt - the three little elves - were cheerfully at their service. The three asked questions such as, “May I help you find the perfect toy for your child?” “How old is he/she, and what are his/her interests?” “Oh! Your child would really like…” They put their expertise to great use because only a kid would know what other kids their age really like!

These three children, along with their parents and everyone who gave their time, service, resources, bikes, and toys, made Christmas morning a joy for many children who would have otherwise not received a gift.

One mom commented, “I did not think it was possible for my children to be so blessed. I could not stop crying for the joy I felt in my heart. All of the volunteers were so caring. I felt special.”

Three kids gave their best in serving single moms this Christmas. It is reminiscent of the three gifts given to the One who gave us His all.

2011 is here and we at Sheridan House are excited and ready to hit the ground running to help children and families in need…literally.

We didn’t want to waste any time starting this New Year off right, so we would like to invite you to participate in the 3rd Annual Family Values 5K on Saturday, February 5th. Not only is it a great motivation to keep your New Year’s resolution to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but it is also an excellent opportunity to Step Out For Children & Families in South Florida and make a difference in their lives.

It is so easy to participate. Simply visit shfm.org/5k to register for this event.

Feel free to customize your fundraising page (you’ll have to check out mine when you have a chance), and then spread the word. Ask your family and friends to sponsor you, post your link on facebook and twitter, and then have fun watching the donations come in to help children and families!

Don’t forget, this is a family-friendly event, so feel free to invite a cheering section, push your baby in a stroller while you run/walk, or have your kids run/walk beside you. We look forward to partnering with you to make this the most enjoyable and successful 5K in our history.

I’ll see you at the starting line; and together, we can Step Out For Children & Families in Jesus’ name.

Serving Him,

A Note From Bob -

We are pleased to announce Rick Weber as the newest member of the Sheridan House family. As of January 1st, he began serving as our Vice President. Rick’s journey here has been a step-by-step adventure; and he is confident that God has led him here for such a time.

In 1990, Rick began serving at Sheridan House. Initially, he joined the golf committee as a tournament liaison. Rick has been a PGA member for over 22 years and for the past 11 years, he has led Palm-Aire Resort Management as their President. His leadership, professionalism, and servant spirit have taken our own tournament to a new level and set the tone for that event.

Over the years, Rick has developed a deep appreciation for the various ministries of Sheridan House. He has gone above and beyond, thought outside the box, and utilized his talents and abilities to serve the Lord by serving at Sheridan House. Whether Rick and his wife, Kim, are preparing for the annual Rick Weber Golf Challenge or serving at one of our various ministry/fundraising events, they are always present and ready to serve in any capacity.

Rick realized that he wanted to work in full-time Christian ministry 6-7 years ago after attending Bible college, but he didn’t want to force anything. After studying Acts, he realized that every Christian is in full-time ministry and continued to lead his team with excellence at Palm-Aire. However, as the years passed, the opportunity to come on board at Sheridan House full-time presented itself, and after much prayer, Rick and Kim knew this is what the Lord had for their family.

When asked what his goals are for Sheridan House, Rick said, “First and foremost, I want to serve Christ. People need to be passionate about what they do and I love Sheridan House. I want to see it grow and I hope to assist in running it as proficiently as possible. I’m also excited to help families in need to not only receive, but to also be in a position to give as well. Sheridan House is a ministry that the whole family can get involved in and I love that. It provides parents the opportunity to teach their children how to serve. My family and I are honored to be a part of it.”
