Mission Statement
Under the protection of the Mother of God, we are a faith community called by the Father,
energized by the Son, and moved by the Spirit to unite in witnessing and proclaiming the Good
News. We share in friendship, gather in worship, and do proclaim our desire to minister, welcome,
celebrate and extend His Kingdom.

Dear Parishioners,
We should always be touched by the generosity of our parishioners. We find it in the teens and adults who journey to Harlan, Kentucky each year. We find it within the many ministries that center around human concerns. In addition, we can see it in the simple acts of generosity of so many of you. I recently received two letters that illustrate this and I would like to share parts of them. One of the ministries at Our Lady of the Woods is Rebuild Together. This ministry assists in the rebuilding of homes in the Chicago area. I received a letter from Margaret Perry, whose home was repaired. I would like to quote from a part of her letter, “I am so grateful and thankful for all of the work that was done in my home….I have never experienced so many lovely people, volunteering with so much joy”. A few weeks ago, a representative of the Sisters of Saint Francis spoke about the need to build a new infirmary and retirement center for the aging sisters. This community sponsors the Joseph P. Kennedy School that has a long association with OLW. I received a thank you from Sr. Ellen Carr who wrote, “The people of Our Lady of the Woods contributed $9,755 to the effort”. We have three mission trips or pilgrimages planned for overseas next year. The first trip is to Belize from January 13-19. The cost of the trip is $2,300 per person for the first family member and $2,000 for additional family members. The cost covers airfare, accommodations, most meals, project materials to build a house and some cultural immersion experiences. Anyone interested in more details or wanting to register for the trip should contact me. The goal is to have 10 to 14 parishioners on the trip. During Spring break at HS District 230, we are sponsoring a trip to NPH Dominican Republic. NPH serves orphaned and abandoned children in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will be working with the children of the NPH home and school there. The service pilgrimage will be from March 24th through March 31st . It is open to adults and high school students. There is information in another part of the bulletin. We have a limited number of spots and this trip is filling up. In the summer of 2019, a pilgrimage for young people is planned to Italy. Father Andrew will be the spiritual leader and Christine Collins the pilgrimage director. This trip will also require sign ups as soon as possible. Finally, I want to call your attention to information about a possible book. Many of us have stories of grace. We are inviting you to share these stories. See the part of the bulletin that says, “We need you!” In Christ,
Father Mike
