regional consortium of eastern North Carolina arts councils matches the NC Arts Council to create a pool of funds for the artists.

In the East, grant awards to artists generally range from $500 to $1,000, and follow a competitive application and review

process.

Grassroots Grant Program – The Community Council for the Arts is now accepting applications for North Carolina Arts Council

Grassroots Arts Program sub-grants for Lenoir County. Applications are available for non-profit organizations whose purpose is to

promote and develop diverse cultural arts programming in Lenoir County. Funding priority is given to qualified arts organizations

(theaters, galleries, choral societies, festivals), arts in education programs conducted by qualified artists, and other community

organizations that provide arts programs in the county. Eligible organizations must have been in operation for at least one year.

Individuals are not eligible to apply for Grassroots Arts funds. While non-profit 501(c)(3) status is preferred, organizations that

are non-profit in nature may also apply. All organizations must reside and carry out projects within Lenoir County. Applications

and support materials must be complete and received by the due date. Grassroots funds are not generally awarded to arts

organizations that receive funding through the North Carolina Arts Council’s State Arts Resources.

Applications will be available August 10, 2016 and due to the Arts Center no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday September 30,

2016. All Lenoir County non-profit arts organizations are eligible to apply as are non-profits with an arts program. Contact Sandy

SUMMER CAMP PHOTOS

The Arts Center welcomes two new young artists to our artist family.

Kinston native Madison Mauck is an artist who recently graduated from the College of

Charleston in May 2016. She received degrees in both Studio Art and Historic

Preservation-Community Planning, and a minor in Art History. During Madison’s years in

school, she focused on painting, especially with acrylics. She enjoys the expressive nature of color to make her paintings come to

life, and derives most of her inspiration from the eastern part of the state and coastal region.

Jordan Exum is also from Kinston and is a graduate of East Carolina University in Art History and Appreciation. She recently received

a Master of Arts in Art History in May 2016 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Jordan helped us this year as a

volunteer with summer camps and also volunteered with Anchor Splash. She will be assisting with exhibitions and other activities.

Jordan attributes much of her love of art to her recently deceased grandmother, Anita Exum.
