Knights of Columbus Council #3548 “Best in the South” February 2014 Vol 51 Issue 8 Dear Brother Knights and Family, February is here and winter is definitely hitting the Tidewater area – everyone please be careful through all the winter weather. Please welcome and introduce yourself to our newest Brother Knights from our 1st Degree on January 28th: Nick Ellis, John Arroyo, Greg Erb, Michael Powell, and Jusup Hansen. Thanks to Brother Steve Vetter and the 1st Degree Team for another successful ceremony. The AFC/NFC Playoffs were a great success. Thanks to all that worked and attended. And thanks to all that worked and attended our Sunday breakfast in January. We had about 35 people for breakfast and it really was great to see people coming to the Knights to socialize before and after Mass. A special thanks to the Columbian Club for the new fence that they installed over the last couple of months. You can feel the excitement in the air as we approach Ash Wednesday, Lent, and St. Patrick’s Day. There are many events coming up so please take note of the calendar. Keep in your prayers: Fr. McGivney, our troops and veterans, and all the sick and/or in distress Brothers and family. Go to Mass and pray the Rosary often. LOTKA News The Ladies’ Auxiliary met in January and enjoyed the various homemade soups, desserts and other items brought in. There was no Bingo game since I was sick that night. However, they talked and visited with each other and had a good time. The month of February is “Death by Chocolate” and anyone can bring in a chocolate item to share (or anything else if they don’t like chocolate). There is a “Sweetheart Dinner” on Friday, February 7ththat sounds wonderful !!! Tell your spouse, signif-icant other or just a friend that you would like to go………..tickets are on sale now. It would be good to support a Friday night dinner and get everyone back into the club to socialize again. Hope to see you there !!! Laura Reese

Bingo Keys

Since Bingo is no longer in effect, the Columbian Club has asked that all brothers with keys (set of 3) to the hall for Bingo, please return them to PGK Ward Holmes or the Grand Knight. Thank you.

Club Back Yard

Recently, we have had several incidents and com-plaints about members driving and running their dogs in the club back yard. The Columbian Club has asked that the Brothers no longer drive their vehicles or run dogs in the back yard in order to make the back yard presenta-ble for rentals.

I would like to congratulate the winners of the coun-cil’s Annual Free Throw Contest: Age 9: Boys- Joseph Capizola, Girls- Gisela Knight Age 10: Boys- Mayson Masterson Age 11: Boys- Elijah Gomez Age 12: Boys- Hayden Tomazic, Girls- Mary Amelia Wellman I would also like to thank Grand Knight Pat Nash, Jeffery May, & Peter Wellman Jr. for helping out with the contest. Happy Birthday Brothers! Welcome to our new Field Agent - Jack Walsh

Jack Walsh is the newest field agent to pro-vide assistance to the Brother Knights of Council 3548. He recently transferred to our council after moving to Hampton Roads in 2004 with his family. He and his wife, Annabelle have been married for 24 years and have three children. Their son, John Jr. (JJ) is a 2013 graduate of West Virginia University and graduated from Bishop Sullivan High School in 2009. Their older daughter, Angelynne (Angel) is a 2012 graduate of Bishop Sullivan and a sophomore at Virginia Tech. Their youngest, Lillian is a sopho-more at Bishop Sullivan. Mr. Walsh graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Business Administra-tion. He received his MBA from Bryant University, Smithfield RI. He started his business career with Brooklyn Union Gas, now Keyspan, as a manage-ment trainee. He moved to NYNEX (Verizon) and spent seven years in direct sales before entering management. He last position with Verizon was a VP of Sales and Marketing for their joint venture in Shanghai China. He moved to Virginia in 2004 after purchasing a local event rental company, and ran the company until it closed in 2010. He joins the Knights of Columbus Field Agent team from Paychex, Inc where he spent the last two years working with small businesses. A member of St. Gregory the Great parish, he was elected and served four years on the Parish Council, two of which on the Executive Council serv-ing Fr. Mario. He and his wife ran the school's "Daddy Daughter Dance" for five years, netting over $25,000 for their athletic council. He assisted with the annual Spring Festival, Parish Picnic, Italian night and other events and also serves as a Eucha-ristic Minister. "I strongly believe in the mission of the Knights in serving our Catholic Church and its charitable en-deavors. I feel the role of a Field Agent aligns well with this mission as the focus is providing protection and security for my Brothers and their families. I look forward to working with your Council and am honored to represent it." Jack Walsh Field Agent [email protected] 757-237-3935
