    at Hope Farm community centre.

    Feedback from the local

    eighbourhood Action Group

to the Councils Our Place team

    showed that a youth group

or forum was needed in the

    area to help tackle antisocial

    behaviour and give young people

    somewhere to go.

The Council worked to secure the

    premises and will now provide

    outh workers for a 12-week

pilot club for 12-16 year-olds on

    Tuesdays from 6-8.30pm.

    Local member Cllr Paul Donovan,

    who supported the project with

    llr icole Meardon, said: There

    hasnt been youth provision in

this area of Ellesmere Port formany years now and I really

    welcome efforts to engage with

    our young people.

    This pilot project will provide

a safe and educational place to

work with local young people and

keep them off the streets and I

hope many of them come along

next Tuesday and see whats on

    Plans revealed

    for towns new

leisure villageLLE R Ports sports and leisure

village is a step closer a ter concept design

    plans were unveiled.

The plans, which will see a state-o -the-

art leisure acility on the pre erred ormer

Stanney High School site, will include an

eight court hall with a seating capacity o

    400, 25 metre, eight-lane competition

swimming pool, a learner pool and80-station gym.

Phase two o the plans would also see the

utilisation o the existing athletics track,

with the capacity to add a grand stand and

indoor athletics provision to create a high-

class acility capable o hosting regional

    events.

The Council had already committed 12.5

million to the project, and the xecut ve

will be asked to approve a urther 1.5million to secure the plans in October. A bid

has also been submitted to Sport nglands

    conic Facilities und.

    Concept

    Executive Member for Culture and

    ecreation, Councillor Stuart Parker, said:

This is very much the beginning of the

process to provide residents of Ellesmere

ort with a high-class leisure offer and

many of the ideas are in concept stage.

We are working with both stakeholders

and members of the public to make sure

that local needs are met in the inal designs

and already have the support of Sport

ngland and the Cheshire Jets, who will call

    the facility home.

The door is still very much open for local

residents and stakeholders to have their

say and help to shape the inal plans butthink the concept designs are extremely

exciting and will offer our residents in

llesmere Port, and indeed visitors from

    further aield, high-class facilities.

e will continue to engage with all

throughout the design process, and a

second public consultation will take place

before the planning application next year.

    Pool

Local member, Cllr Justin Madders, said: I

hope that it can be demonstrated that there

is suficient support for a larger, 50m pool

that would serve as a regional centre o

    excellence.

    Cllr Parker added: now have

preliminary dates for many of the milestone

points in the process and following furtherconsultation to be carried out through this

year we hope to have a detailed design by

    April 2013.

    Construction should begin in autumn

2013, with the building opening in spring

    2015.

Most importantly this needs to be a

    community facility, fully inclusive and

accessible to all, and I hope local people

will work with us to ensure that local needsare met.

OVING IN TOG TH RITH mortgage rates low and the cost of

living going up the option to move in with

your partner is increasingly tempting for

    many people.

a ing up together every day, enjoying cosy

nights in, decorating and DI and saving

money as two live as cheaply as one - there

are many reasons why setting up home with

your partner seems li e a great idea.

Moving in together is a thrilling andromantic time, full of optimism about your

shared future. Its easy to understand why

few people stop and think about their legal

    position.

Many people living with a partner do

not realise that, even in this day and age,

unmarried couples are not protected by law

in the same way that married couples are.

For example, did you know that if you movein with your partner and the house is only in

their name you have no rights to the proceeds

from the sale of the house - or to inherit the

    house if they die?

Every year many people discover that even

though theyve handed their partner money

each month towards the mortgage and the

ills, they have no claim on the property

because its only in their partners name.

Their relationship ends or their partner dies

and they are left homeless and out of pocket.

If you are thinking about - or already have

    - moved in with your partner, its well worth

taking legal advice to ind out what rights you

have, where you and your partner stand with

the law in all situations, and what you can do

to ma e your position more secure.

    CHESHIRE West and Chester

    Council has launched an empty

    shop refurbishment programme in

Ellesmere Port in to improve the area

and bring properties back into use.

    Looking to target long-term vacant

shops in the old high street of Whitby

Road, the grant scheme aims to bring

properties back into use, improvethe appearance of the street, help

increase footfall for the other shops,

and support the regeneration of the

    wider area.

Landlords will be asked to rent

out their unused retail unit to local

community interest groups for a two-

    year period, receiving a peppercorn

rent and beneitting from a grant to

bring the property back up to modernspeciications in return.

    Executive Member for Prosperity,

    Councillor Herbert Manley, said: With

    the current economic climate Whitby

Road has many unused retail outlets

    and encouraging landlords to claim

this grant will not only improve the

appearance of one of the main routes

into the town but will bring properties

back into use. This means that following

    refurbishment works the shutters

will not go down again waiting for a

    commercial tenant, but will actually

open up to welcome a not-for-proit

    local user.

    Landlords with empty properties

may not be able to renovate on their

own but with the aid of this grant their

facilities will be upgraded, puttingthem in the market for new tenants in

    the future.

    Local member, Councillor Justin

Madders, said: I know the Councils

    Regeneration team has already

    received one application from a

landlord with a property empty for

over ive years who is looking to work

with an organisation to open an art

gallery. As one of the main approaches to

the town it is vital that the view along

Whitby Road is a positive as possible.

    The grant scheme is available

    to landlords of long-term vacant

shops. For further information, or to

    request an application form, please

    contact Town Centre Improvement

    Manager Jochem Hollestelle by

Flowers are in short supply so if you arelucky and have the right conditions forgrowing Nerines, then you may have someof their exotic pink owers still around. Theylike a well drained soil in sun such as at the

base of a wall to keep the frost from rottingthe bulbs.

I nd that perennials such as Pulmonariahave lovely leaves in autumn. They put outnew growth when the soil becomes wetterafter summer. They look lovely paired withHeuchera with deep red foliage to offset thesilver blotched leaves of the Pulmonaria..

Ferns also provide green in darker placesso consider the Asplenium or Harts Tongueferns with glossy green leaves or Polystichumsetiferum, the soft shield fern that will give afan of cool green colour.

Berries on Sorbus, the Mountain Ash maystill be around although the red berries seemto be eaten by birds rst but orange, yellowand cream berries are left well into winter.

Rose hips like little pot belliedpots on Rosa rugosa var et es arebright red, bringing a splash ofcolour.

Jobs to do around the garden includenishing planting tulip bulbs which can go

in later than daffodils. Also gather up leavesfrom the lawn and those smothering smallerplants. Stack them in a separate compost binor put in a bin liner to rot down. Keep theleaves moist to encourage rotting and after acouple of years you will have superb compost.

Ponds should be netted if they are neartrees to stop leaves falling into the waterand rotting. Remove any dead foliage fromwaterside plants and water lilies.

I cut down any dying foliage that will not lookgood when frosted but I tend to leave plantslike Sedums in place because their owerheads look lovely dusted with frost. Slightlytender plants can have foliage left in place toact as a mulch and protect them from coldtemperatures.

Dig up dahlia tubers, remove the foliageand store in a frost free and mouse free placeover winter to dry out. They can be planted in

spring to grow again next year.
