intended
to
provide
minimum
requirements
f or select¡on,
manuf
acture and
operation
of
electrical motors
of
44A
Volts
to
be installed
at
KOC Facilities
in
Kuwait.
This
Standard
has
been
approved
by
the
Standards
Team
in
consultation
with
the
Standard Technical
Committee
(STC)
for
use
throughout
the corporate
Engineering
and
operational functions
of
Kuwait
Oil Company
(K.S.C.).
This Standard
sets out to
achieve the
following
objectives
To
provide
technical
guidance
for
selection
of
Low Voltage
lnduction
Motors
with
a view
to
achieve
safety,
uniformity,
quality,
reliability
and
efficiency
in
an
economical
manner.

To maintain the
KOC requirements
of
safety
and
protection
to the
personnel,
plant
and
environment
established
by KOC's
Fire & Safety
Regulation,
Health,
Safety
& Environmental
Management
System
(HSEMS)
and
H&E Guideline.

to set
out the
minimum
requirements
which will
also
act
as a checklist
to
ensure
that
all the
features for
design,
construction,
testing,

This Standard
specifies the minimum
requirements
for
Low
Voltage
lnduction
Motors
operating at
voltage
up to
44O volts with
the
maximum
rating
of
120 kW
to
be
used
through
out
KOC
facilities.
1.2 This
Standard also covers
all classes
of
lnduction Motors
generally
used in
Oil and
Gas
industry
and
operated
at low
voltage.

APPL¡CATION
The Low
Voltage
Motors
shall
fully comply
in design,
material
and
performance
with
this
Standard
and
the requirements
of
standards
and
codes
referenced
herein.
Variable
Speed Drives
and
Motors
with
special
applications
such
as
downhole
duties,
totally
submerged
or
hollow
shafts are
not
covered
under
this document.
2.3
Any
exceptions
or
deviations
frorn
this
Standard,
along
with
their merits
and
justifications,
shall
be brought
to the
attention
of
KOC s
Controlling
Team
for
their
review,
consideration and amendment
by
Standards
Team
(if
required).

The
environmental
conditions
in Kuwait
are
severe-

site
and utility
supply conditions
prevailing
throughout
the
KOC Facilities.

HEALTH, SAFETY

requirements
of KOC's
HSE
Policy,

Regulations,
Health,
Safety &
Environmental
Management

shall
be
adhered
to
while
installing.

8.8
Motor
shall
be suitable
for
outdoor
installation
and
the
sunshades
shall
be
provided
where
specified
in
the
Data
Sheet.
9.O
ENCLOSURES
9.1
Motor
enclosures
and all
terminal
boxes
shall
have
a
minimum
degree
of
protection
of
lP
55
unless
otherwise
specified in
the
Data
Sheet.
9.2
Motors
and
their associated terminal
boxes
located
in
hazardous
areas
shall
have
the
appropriate
type
of certification
by
an internationally
recognized
certifying
agency
and also
approved
by KOC.
For certified
'Exd'
motors the terminal
boxes
shall
have
same
type
of
certification
'Exd'.
Other types
of
hazard
certification
shall
not
be
acceptable.
The
design
shall
prevent
the accumulation
of
moisture
within
the
enclosure.
lf a drain
hole is
provided.
it shall
be at
the
lowest
point
on
the
stator,

accessibility

TERMINAL
BOXES
12.1
When
a
motor is
provided
with the
temperature
detector
or a
condensation
heater,
the connection
for
each
such device
shall
be
brought
out to
separate
terminal
boxes.
Each
of these
terminal
boxes
shall
be
provided
with
an internal
earth
terminal
and
be
protected
against
over-voltage.
This shall
be
in
addition
to the
earth¡ng
bolt
provided
on
the
motor frame.
12.2
Terminal boxes shall be
phase
insulated.
12.3 Cable
terminal boxes
for
incoming
cables
shall be suitable
for
lSOmetric
threads,
which
shall
be
provided
to
allow compression-type
glands
to
be
f
itted.
12.4
The terminal
boxes
shall
be designed
such
that
no
parts
can be
dropped
into
the
motor
frame.
12.5
The cable
entries
to
the
terminal
box shall
suit
the
cable
sizes
determíned
after
considering
the
voltage drop
and
derating
factors
unless specified
otherwise.
12.6
The main
terminal
box shall
be
top
mounted
or side mounted
as
specified
in the
Data
Sheet.
The terminal
box
shall be
adjustable for
cable
entry
at
four 90o
positions.
12.7
The
terminal
boxes
shall have
a
minimum
degree
of
protection
of
lP
55
in
accordance
with IEC
60529
unless
otherwise
specified
in Data
Sheet
and the
motor
manufacturer
shall
ensure
that all
cable entr¡es
are
meeting
this
requirement
prior
to cabling.
12.8
The terminal
boxes shall
be
capable
of

by HRC
fuses
or MCCB
as
indicated
in
the
Data
Sheet.
12.10
All entries
to the
terminal
boxes for
the
motor
to
be
used in hazardous
area
shall
be
plugged
with
an appropriate and approved
slopper
plug/seal
and
it
shall
be
provided
with
certification
marking
to
identify
that
it
has
appropriate
approval by
a
Certifying
Authority-

of motor
cooling
shall
be
Totally
Enclosed
Fan-Cooled
{TEFC}.

non-corroding

or
metal
and
shall
be
of
non-sparking and
anti-static
type.
13.3
Aluminium
and other
Oxygen
carrier
light
metals
shall
not be
used for
fan
and
heat
exchanging.
The material
shall
be
corrosion
resistant
to
Kuwait
atmosphere
as detailed
in
KOC
Standard
f or
Basic
Deslgn
Data
(KOC-G-0O7)
13.4
The flow
of
cooling
air
shall be
in
the
direction
of
the driven
equipment'
13.5
The
direction
of
rotation
of the
motor shall
be
clearly
indicated
on
the
motor
by
raised
or
embossed markings.
13.6
The shaft
ends
shall be
provided
with
60o
center
hole
suitably threaded
to
facilitate
the assembly/removal
of
endshield,
couplings
and bearings.
13.7
The rotor
and
internal
fan(s)
shall be
dynamically
balanced
with
the
key
way(s)
fully
filled
with
half
key(s).

The coupling
half
and
externat
fan
where
fitted
shall
be
independently
balanced,
also
with
the
key
way
fully
filled
with a
half
key.
13.9
lf
additional
weight
is
required
for
batancing,
this
material shall
not
be
of
lead
or
similar
soft
material.

BEARINGS
14.1
Within the
limits
of their
application,
the
horizontal
motor
shall
have
two
ball/rolling
bearings,
grease
packed
and
sealed
for
life
to
prevent
the
ingress
of
foreign
matter
and
the
loss
of
grease. Where high
radial
forces
occur in
service,
the
combination
of
ball
and
rolling
bearing
shall
be acceptable.

Vertical
motors
shall
have
thrust
bearings
to
carry the
maximum
axial
thrust
