Port Hole Building upgrade near completionMONIQUE VERMEULEN

CONSTRUCTION on the upgradedPort Hole Building, that will bringan end to the “industrial” feel ofthe road area behind the building,is nearing completion.

According to Craston Wilson fromChrystal Chimes Properties, the ex-pansion that started in July and willbe completed by the end of November, will not only improve the overall lookand feel of the area but it will also ena-ble Balobi Processors to link up itstwo processing areas and give storagespace for the cages and loading area, well protected from the weather.

“Originally, when the factory wasestablished - long before any other de-velopments in the commercial area ofthe Port - the “cages” used to storeproduct and other items were to bestored on the harbour side of thebuilding but the harbour asked forthem to be stored on the other side ofthe building,” said Wilson.

“The hotel and conference centre,

in the main, were not happy with the“industrial” feel of the road area be-hind the building as all the “cages”were in the road and occasionally re-ject pilchards were visible at the back. The Port St Francis Property OwnersAssociation sold the land to ChrystalChimes Properties with approvedplans, with a condition that construc-tion of the building had to be com-menced by March 2012.

“This is why the project to close inthe “loading area” and build shops ontop came about. The whole idea hadbeen mooted for a long time.”

According to Wilson, new shops arebeing sought to stock items that thefishing industry use and also for peo-ple to be able to buy items in the Portother than just use the boating andfishing activities and restaurants.

Elektriese SA motor in 2015 beskikbaarJOHAN VAN TONDER
