Our focus values this term are: BE HEALTHY and LIVE YOUR VALUES

Classroom wellbeing curriculum will be focused on these

values for Term 4.

HATS—SCHOOL UNIFORM Part of being healthy is looking after your body. Be active, eat well, sleep. We also need to be responsi-

ble enough to protect our skin from the sun. Australia has a high rate of preventable skin cancers—caused by sun exposure. WE

EXPECT EVERY STUDENT TO WEAR THEIR SCHOOL HAT FOR AT LEAST TERM 1 AND 4, AS SET OUT IN OUR UNIFORM

POLICY. This includes during any outdoor activities such as sport. We have noticed a number of children forgetting to wear their hat.

Please ensure your child comes to school with a school, broad brimmed hat. Teachers will ensure students are wearing them. Stu-

dents found to be without hats will be reminded and then a notice will be sent home to parents as a reminder of our uniform policy.

Students without hats will be moved to shady areas to play. We continuously develop our school grounds to provide plenty of shady

areas as part of our plan against skin cancers. We thank you for your support in this matter

6 LITTLE THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR WELLBEING EACH DAY

It’s important to look after ourselves, to take time out for ourselves. The link below has some quick ideas you can think about for yourself.

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/personal-best/pillar/wellbeing/six-little-things-you-can-do-for-your-wellbeing-every-day

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY Friday 25th October marks the date that Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day. Established by UNESCO in 1994, it is a day when we consciously celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and address some of the issues central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the profession.

This year, the United Nations has declared the theme of World Teachers’ Day to be “Young Teachers: The future of the Profession”. Teachers can all remember their early years in the classroom, as they worked at becoming more confident in their craft. A vital factor in their development, learning and wellbeing is the more experienced teachers who mentored and guided them.

We are practising gratitude and showing appreciation as an LPPS and modelling that to our students. Small, simple acts of kindness can bring such joy to others—even just a smile. Let’s all make an extra effort next week.

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 Transition number 3 is coming up on November 11, just for 2020 Preps We still have a small number of Prep vacancies for 2020. The next information session for parents will be based on English at LPPS, especially in Prep and what you can do to help as parents.

We are also starting to look at 2020 classes for the rest of the school. If your child will be attending a

different school in 2020 could you please let the front office know so a smooth transition process can

occur.

WALK FOR TYPE 1 DIABETES We all know that many of us have extra challenges in our lives we have to manage. For a couple of our students here at Langy Park their challenge is managing their Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease destroying the body’s ability to process sugar, which means a patient must inject themselves with insulin multiple times throughout each day to help the body do this job. This Sunday there is a big walk being organised by an organisation called JDRF who raise awareness and research into finding a cure for this disease. This group began as a small group of families, now millions of people work with and support JDRF all around the world. It shows that if you believe in something strongly you can take action to make a difference.

Here is a perfect example: this Sunday the boys shown here, along with their family and friends will walk 5 – 10 kilometres to

raise awareness and funds. By doing this their teams have already raised $7,687.16! This shows that by getting behind a cause

you believe in and making any small contribution you can, this can grow very quickly to make a huge difference. Supporting

our peers, particularly when they come across new challenges in their life, is one of the most wonderful things we can

do. We applaud these boys and wish them all well with their big walk supporting their friends and everyone that has to

manage Type 1 Diabetes each day. Let us know of any special things you are involved in within our community.

BEING HEALTHY and LIVING OUR VALUES AT LPPS

WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH As the student health ambassadors announced at assembly last week, Walk to School Month for the next two weeks. They have displayed posters about the event and are collecting class data to see who walks to school. They will then collect these results at the end of the two weeks and announce the winning class at assembly. Walking counts even if students are only walking part of the way to school if they are normally driven each day. Thanks for your support.

WONDER WOMAN WALK We have a number of staff from our school completing the 30km walk to raise funds for ovarian

cancer research this weekend. We wish them well.

Thank you to our Education Support staff who run the program.

SPONSORS A huge thanks to our sponsors who assist us with providing programs for the students. Coles helps immensely with the Breakfast Club. We also have some private sponsors that provide assistance financially to help us give every student the opportunity to participate in as many of our great programs as possible. Thank you also to Strike Bowl, Lunar Drive In, Zone Bowling, Pancake Parlour, the canteen and Moonlight Sanctuary for their vouchers. We are very grateful for their kindness and support.

Please ensure you have the latest version of QKR—just update and you are ready to go. Qkr! offers a “push notification” function whereby you will be notified if something relevant to your child’s level has been added to Qkr! Please ensure that you have opted in to this feature by opening the Qkr! App, going into Settings (by clicking the 3 horizontal bars in the top left of the screen) and opt in to receive push notifications. COLOUR EXPLOSION—RUN 4 FUN

Dear Parents,

We are just a week away from our inaugural Run4Fun Colour Explosion. Thank you for your amazing

fundraising efforts to date.

If you haven’t already, you may make a fundraising profile page at https://myprofilepage.com.au

You do not need the booklet to make this page. The code that is in the booklet merely gives you a chance of “winning” an extra donation to your account. It is not tagged to each child so don’t panic if you have several children and have mixed the booklets up. It’s your last chance to raise funds for our great school. Jump online to www.myprofilepage.com.au and share your Profile Page using the share buttons. You’ll achieve your fundraising goal in no time. Answers to some FAQS

If you are doing CASH fundraising, you may start to send in the cash and forms if you have finished your

donation collections. This will help us to get a headstart on the paperwork. The online fundraising portal will close to donations on October 31st, the day AFTER the event. There will be two lanes at each colour point, one for colour and one for no colour. So never fear, you can

still participate if you don’t want the colour powder. The children will be wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes during the event. The adults will be directing the colour powder at the torso area from the shoulders down. We cannot

guarantee that some powder may not drift to the face area but it will be aimed at the lower body. The students will be running within the school grounds at all times.

If you want more information on the colour powder we will use in our event, please request the

Test Report at the School Office. The powder we will use is sourced from India, the home of Holi

Powder. It’s non-toxic, environmentally friendly, biodegradable and skin safe. Only the best for our

students!

It will be a Casual Dress Day but students will need a change of clothes for after the run.

Don’t forget to bring a white/light coloured t-shirt and a change of clothes as you will be covered in vibrant, non-toxic colour powder. You will also need a hat as it is Sun Smart season…broad brimmed if possible.

YEAR 5 WERRIBEE ZOO Year 5 visited Werribee Zoo last week to investigate animal adaptations and how these aid survival in different environments. The students had the opportunity to view a range of animals and their habitats and attend a number of educational experiences with zoo staff. We were very proud of our students as they impressed the zoo staff with their enthusiasm, interest and knowledge of animal adaptations. The students will continue their studies back at school with research projects on animals of their own choice. It is always great to give our students real experiences to make their learning more meaningful.

INSPIRATION GARDEN We can now reveal the reason our Inspiration Garden has been locked for these first weeks of Term. During the holidays we had a mother duck choose our beautiful Inspiration Garden in which to nest. After many weeks protecting her eggs, some very excited students came to tell me that the babies had hatched...all 9 of them. Having enjoyed her stay at LPPS, mother duck escorted her babies all the way down Northgateway, into Ferndale Drive and through to a wetland area where they will now live. We hope she will return next year. Thank you to the students for protecting her while she was here. This is a reminder that we must be aware of our environment and respect the beautiful gardens we have here at school.
