WHERE’S THE FIRE, CHIEF? omy of this department a bad thing? The fire department just recently voted for and selected as their choice for Fire Chief, a current member of their department, Brent Biedenbender. Brent is a Butler resident who has been a member of the fire service since 1992. He has been with Lannon since 1/10 - has been a Lt. in Lan-non since 07/10 and has been a WI Certi-fied Level II firefighter since 2/96. Brent has been a WI State Certified MPO since 7/04 and an EMT since 6/95. He became an IV-Tech in 6/03 and is a WI State Certi-fied Level I Instructor. He currently teaches at WCTC for Fire and EMS Certi-fied Officer 1. Additionally, Brent is a basic mechanic on the Fire Department Vehi-cles. Fully certified and highly qualified, we believe that Brent would make an ex-cellent Fire Chief for this department. <

F or many months, the Village Board has known that veteran Chief Gary

Georgenson would be retiring at the end of 2010. The board was quick to change the ordinances so that they could manage

the selection of a new chief. So what is the result - no new chief as of this date. The Lannon Volunteer Fire Department has been op-erating since it was char-

tered by Wisconsin in 1917.

The system of organization and chief se-lection has worked for 93 years! And now we have a group of Trustees who think they know more and can do it better. How could they forget that this is a Volun-teer Fire Department? Why is the auton-

WHO’S MOVIN’ ON?

A fixture in Lannon since around 1969, our branch of Associated

Bank is closing its doors at the end of March. The friendly staff has given us exceptional service for many years. The current employees will be moving on to other Associated branches. We thank you for all the great service! <

A t the January Village Board meeting, it was proposed that Lannon and

Menomonee Falls create a joint munici-pal court. The idea of reducing costs by consolidating operations could benefit both communities. This action would have to be completed by May 2011 to coincide with an election year necessity. Inexplicably, the board, prompted by Trustee Newman, decided that there was not enough time to coordinate these actions and delayed this cost-saving measure for another 2 years. The delay was voted on and without dissent, approved unanimously. The big question now remains - is saving our money worth the effort to make it happen quickly? <

WHERE’S THE JUSTICE?

T he Village Plan Commission on January 27th approved Plans of Op-

eration for two new businesses. Caliber Fleet Services 19876 Edgewood Drive and CS Motorsports LLC located at 7136 Town Line Road. Truck repair and Vehi-cle sales. A few details like landscaping and retention ponds are in the works by July 1st. Welcome and good luck! <

SMALL BUSINESS

T ake a look around Lannon. What physically has changed in the past

year? For starters, a few miscellaneous signs have been removed from some buildings. A few more For Sale signs have appeared. A new fence appeared on one property (under threat of litiga-tion). A new building on Good Hope Road appeared (still empty?). Did any-one see a Welcome to Lannon sign? No new housing developments were ap-proved by what I’ve observed to be a mostly negative Village Board and Plan Commission. And so it continues. <
