CONGRATULATORY ANNOUNCEMENTS
• Congratulaons to local hockey player Nicole Blanche, winner
of the 2018 AUS Defensive Player of the Year. Nicole is a
member of the St. Mary's Huskies women's hockey team.
• Congratulaons to local hockey players Brooke Lannon and
Laura Gambin who were part of the Tri Pen Ice AAA Bantam
Girls team which won the Provincial AAA Bantam Girls tle
recently. The team will now represent NL at the Atlanc
championships in PEI April 5-8.
EXEPENDITURE APPROVAL
Highlights of approved expenditures included:
• $19,500.00 (HST included) to Concord Paving for paving
• $9,270.00 to Atlanc Technical Services for pump house
repairs
• $5,559.96 plus HST to Infotech Services for website upgrade
• $3,499.00 plus HST for the purchase of a new radar speed sign
• $1,287.00 plus HST for purchase of a salter controller
• $19,009.50 less a refund of $950.00 (plus HST) for the
purchase of snow and ice control materials
• $10,014.22 for repair of three li< staon pumps
• $5,000 grant to the Placena Rega>a Commi>ee
• $100 for Minor Hockey ad
• $512 for equipment rental
OTHER APPROVALS
• Amended tax structure for 2018 to include a tax rate of
$300,000.00 per annum for Industrial Port Operaons and a
Water/Sewer Rate for Industrial Port Operaons at a rate of
9.5 mils or a minimum of $400.00
• Adjustment of $718.48 business tax on account #CASTL007
due to business has ceased operaon
• Adjustment of the water hook up fee for Husky Energy in
Argena as it is covered in the tax agreement
• Adversing to hire five workers for a five week period for the
summer clean up period. (Details to be posted online soon)
• Approval of AVIVA Community Fund Agreement to accept
$100,000.00 for the Southeast Playground Splash Pad project
• Approval of reclassificaon of business tax for Oceanex from
Import/Export to Marshalling Yard
PERMITS
Council approved the following permits:
• One residenal building applicaon
• One commercial building extension
• Four accessory buildings
• Two drive-in carwashes
• One business permit for warehouse and office
• One business occupancy for naturopathic supplements
• One occupancy permit for storage and transport
• One occupancy for property rentals
• Four taxi permits
• One crown land applicaon

RECREATION SUMMER PROGRAM
The Town is working with Placena Area Development
Associaon to explore the possibility of PADA delivering the
youth summer program. More informaon is expected to
be ready for next month's meeng.
GARBAGE COLLECTION
LW Consulng has been retained to manage a tender for
waste collecon. The tender will be released in April with a
temporary contractor providing services on a weekly basis
in the interim. Garbage collecon will be held on Thursdays
for the period March 29 to April 12, 2018. The Town’s
annual bulk collecon date will be announced later in the
month.
VOLUNTEER EVENT
The Town will be holding a Volunteer Appreciaon event on
April 19th in Freshwater. Representaves from community
groups and organizaons will be invited to a>end. Guest
speaker for the event will be Heather Miller with the NL
Special Olympics.

PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT
Adam Greene was hired for the posion of Public Works
Superintendent. Adam will start his employment with the
Town of March 26th.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Council noted that the February Community Consultaon
session went over well with approximately 30 people in
a>endance. Council would like to see this number increase
at the next session that will be scheduled for May.
WILD ROSE AWARDS
The Annual Wild Rose Awards is apart of the Town’s
Community Beauficaon Program. The award was
introduced to recognize the efforts of individuals and
community organizaons who contribute to the
beauficaon of our Town as well as improve the
environment in which we live and foster community pride.
Members of our community are nominated for
beauficaon, property maintenance or gardening projects
in public or private spaces and or community clean-up and
environmental efforts. The Town is now accepng
nominaons for the 2018 awards. Applicaons can be
found on the Town app or by dropping by the Town Hall.
TRAFFIC CALMING
The following stats collected on the Town’s staonary
traffic sign during the period February 26 to March 25,
2018.
• 65,584 motorists travelled west on Blockhouse Road
• Average number of vehicles per day 2,342
• 30% of motorists exceeded the 50km speed limit
• Max speed clocked 93km/h
These stats are shared regularly with the RCMP. Council
urges all motorists to please slow down to keep everyone
safe.
EQUIPMENT RENTAL STANDING OFFER
The Public Works Commi>ee will be updang the standing
offer for equipment rental and seeking new bids in the
coming weeks.
REMOVAL ORDERS
Council issued two removal orders for accessory buildings
without required permits on Harbour Drive.
