Why Common DC Bus?
Applications that require multiple motors and drivescan be configured to use a Common DC bus. Thisis being done more often, and with good reasons,including:
• Reducedcomponentcount• Energy savings• Cost savings
ByconnectingtheDCbussesofmultipleVFDs,powerthatisbeingregeneratedbyamotorinonepartofthesystemcanbeconsumedbyamotorthatispoweringthesystem.Thisisagreatadvantageforapplicationswith motors that are constantly regenerating whileothersaremotoring.ThisalsoallowssytemstouseoneBraking Transistor and Resistor (or Line RegenerationModule) formultipledriveswhen the line is stoppingordecelerating.
Cranes, gantries and other motion systems can alsobenefit from a common braking solution, as there istypicallyasinglelargemotorwithothersmallermotors.To further reduce component count, a power supplycanbeusedwithmultipledrivestoeliminatemultiplepowersuppliesinadrivesystem.
