She was bom June 19, 1909 in Nada to Joseph and Frances Wcndcl Meismer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Kubesch; one brother; and six sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Jo Ann Truman of Friendswood and Lillian Gohlkc of Sheridan; sons, Ray Kubesch of Wharton and Fred Ku- besch Jr. of Victoria; seven grandchil- dren; two stcp-grandchildrcn; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, February 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada with Rev. Joseph Kocbcl officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. I will end the current practice of plea bargaining with cocaine dealers for probated sen- tences. They should be in prison and not on probation. 2. Follow the Law. The County Attorney's policy of requiring a $1500 payment to his private corporation to obtain a probated sen- tence was ruled illegal by the Attorney General. Fines should be paid to Colorado County and not to a private corporation. 3. Put Victims First. Our victims are waiting too long for justice and restitution. We have over three times as many cases awaiting action on our court dockets than does Fayette County. I want to re- organize the County Attorney's office to get our dockets under con- trol without increasing the budget. 4. Work for the Taxpayers. Convicted felons in our county jail are housed, fed, and receive medical treatment at taxpayers' expense until the County Attorney prepares the paperwork for transfer to state prison. This should be done in one week instead of six weeks. A large seizure case on July 1, 1997 has been awaiting action for over 2>/ 2 years. Treasurer Darryl Lcc Neubauer, 32, of For- est Oaks (Altair), passed away at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2000 from injuries re- ceived in a one-car accident near Weimar. He was born July 30, 1967, in Houston to Harvey Lee and Tillie Lucille Dusck Neubauer. Darryl was a graduate of Rice High School with the Class of 1986 and attended WCJC for a year and a half. He and Melissa Ann Ruether were married June 10,1989 at the Parish of the Nativity in Eagle Lake. A member of St. Anthony Catho- lic Church in Columbus, Darryl worked for and had currendy been manager of Steve Balas Rice Farms of Eagle Lake for a number of years. He was a very talented musician and a member of The Tony Janak's Band. He sal-in with many other bands in the area as well. A loving husband, devoted father and son, he will be long remembered and missed by all. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tillie Lucille Dusck Neu- bauer in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Melis- sa Ann Ruether Neubauer of Forest Oaks; children, Kristen LeeAnn Neubauer, six years old; Kaylen Daryl Neubauer, age one; and Garrctt Lee Neubauer, age eight; father, Harvey Lee Neubauer of Forest Oaks; grand- mother, Ida Lee Neubauer of Hal- lcltsville; father- and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Ozc Ruether of Eagle Lake; brother-in-law, Mark Ruether and wife, Dee, of Austin; nephew, Mason Ruether of Austin; other rela- tives and a host of loved ones. Rosary was recited Monday, Feb- ruary 28, at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Dulany Funeral Home led by Mary Ann Sommerfield, Joyce and Darline Muras. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 29, from Holy Cross Catholic Church, East Bernard with Rev. Don Rutter officiating. Other ministers included ushers, Ste- ven and Justin Koehne and Rodney Neubauer; giftbearcrs, Ray and Frances Dusek; organist, Diane Vik- torin; altar boys, Chris and Matthew Sebesta; lector, Georgie Bergen; and eulogist, Brenda Besch. Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily in their loss. Waldo W. Townley August 1,1912 - February 22, 2000 Waldo W. Townley, 87, was born in Eagle Lake on August 1, 1912. He passed away February 22, 2000. Mr. Townley, affectionately known as "Puoled'Eau", was a retired electrician and member of IBEW Local 716. He was a longtime Ham Radio Operator (W5FEK) and genealogy buff. Townley was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Morrow Townley; and daughter, Waldecn "Dee" Danforth. He is survived by his son and dau- ghter-in-law, James and Betty Town- ley of Georgia; a sister, Maurine An- derson of Baytown; granddaughters, Laura Granbcrry and Brenda Meyers of Houston and Victoria Townley of Georgia; grandson, Daryle J. Phillips of Zavalla; three great-granddaugh- ters; one great-grandson; one great- great grandson; and many loving friends and neighbors. The men really enjoy the ride along with a cold soda pop. Mr. Hoddc was happy to get out for the able ride. Jan. 18: Mrs. Patty Stephens comes out each Tuesday to play music for the residents. Some of the residents remember some of the songs. Thank you again, Mrs. Stephens. Jan. 20: Heritage House employ- ees surprised Elaine Suarez with a baby shower, along with her husband, mother and grandmother. It wasn't very easy to try to put one over on her, but we did it. Mr. Bcnge has been volunteering by playing music for the residents and staff on his portable keyboard. He plays a variety of music. A couple of residents were able to step out on the dance floor. We all have an enjoyable time watching the residents dance. Several residents attended bingo in Wallis. A couple of the residents visited with friends and neighbors and other bingo players. Jan. 28: Greater Rising Star Bap- tist Church hosted the residents' birth- day party. The ladies from the church really put together a beautiful party at the last minute. Czech Heritage Society to meet March 11 The Czech Heritage Society of Te US (CHS) will hold its Spring State Meeting Saturday, March 11, at St Andrew's Hall in Hilljc. Hillje is lo- cated just southeast of El Campo on US Hwy. 59 south. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available. Ven- dor and exhibit booths will be open. Music will be provided for the listen- ing pleasure of registrants. Guests and non-members are always welcome at our meetings. Wharton County Chapter Presi- dent Marie Matcck will deliver the welcome address at 10:30 am., fol- lowed by welcoming address from District Judge Daniel Sklar and El Campo Mayor Kenneth Martin. The keynote speech, to be deliv- ered by Mr. George Rhodes, will commence at 11 a.m. Rhodes is a resident of the Six Mile Community, Calhoun County. After serving in WWII as a member of the Army Air Corps, he graduated from the South Texas School Of Law and was admit- ted to the Texas Slate Bar in 1954. He is the President of the Calhoun County Historical Commission, a position he has held since 1973. He is very active in the quest for preserva- tion ol history and artifacts in Calhoun County and surrounding areas. In addition to the law practice, Rhodes is involved in farming and oil and gas activities. He resides on property in the Six Mile Community originally pur- chased by his grandfather in 1897. Lunch will be served at 12 noon with the East Bernard Czech Singers entertaining diners. The CHS business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Exhibits, books and genealogy information will be available.
