INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

PRAY FOR VOCATIONS

You are invited to pray for vocations. Parishioners will meet before our outdoor statue of Our Lady of Fatima to pray a rosary for a greater response to vocations among the faithful. The rosary will be prayed in English on Tues-days at 6:45 PM., in Spanish on Saturdays at 9:15 AM and Bilingual on the last Sunday of the month at 11:45 AM.

Also you are invited to join our Parish Vocations Committee. Let us pray for vocations.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners,

Last Friday we completed the first week of summer. Welcome summer! It also was the 22nd anniversary of my ordination as a priest. Thank you God. It is an honor and privilege to serve the Lord and the parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima in God’s name. When I remember my first year as a priest, the idea of serving twenty years seemed like something for old people. Time goes so fast. I don’t think I am old but in three years I will celebrate twenty five years as a priest, God will-ing. That is a quarter of a century. I thank God for good health and strength. What do we do with the gift of time and our abilities in life? God has given us free will and therefore we have a choice about the way we live our lives. Just like in the season of summer we may have more time on our hands and we will choose to do something with that time so it is with all the time that we have in our lives. If you have young children, you may think of choosing to send them to our Elementary School Fun Center this summer. Call Our Lady of Fatima School at 718-429-7031. Our freedom is a gift from God. It is a blessing. We need to respect our freedom and use it to the best of our ability. This past week the US Conference of Catholic Bishops asked people to pray that religious freedom may be respected in places and situations where it has not been pre-served. On the Memorial of Thomas Moore and John Fisher, the prayer was that we may serve our country but be servants of God first. On the Solemnity of the Body of Christ the prayer was to be in solidarity with persecuted Christians in the Middle East, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Nigeria and oth-er areas. On the Nativity of John the Baptist prayers were said that nominees to positions in our government may not be subjected to unjust, discriminatory religious tests. The Conference also asked for prayers for the persecuted Rohingya in Bangladesh, for an end to discrimination in gov-ernment funding for faith-based child welfare service providers that decline services when in con-flict with their religious beliefs or moral convictions and other issues of religious freedom. As we look forward to celebrating Independence Day on the fourth of July, let us pray that re-ligious freedom and the gift of God-given rights may be respected in our country and all over the world.

Queridos feligreses,

El viernes pasado completamos la primera semana de verano. ¡Bienvenido el Verano! Fue también el 22 aniversario de mi ordenación como sacerdote. Gracias Dios. Es un honor y un privilegio de servir al Señor y a los feligreses de Nuestra Señora de Fátima en el nombre de Dios. Cuando recuerdo mi primer año como sacerdote, la idea de servir veinte años me parecía algo como para las personas mayores. El tiempo pasa tan rápido. No creo que sea viejo, pero en tres años celebraré vein-ticinco años como sacerdote, si Dios quiere. Eso es un cuarto de siglo. Agradezco a Dios por su buena salud y fortaleza. ¿Qué hacemos con el don del tiempo y nuestras habilidades en la vida? Dios nos ha dado libre albedrío y, por lo tanto, podemos elegir la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas. Al igual que en la tem-porada de verano, podemos tener más tiempo en nuestras manos y elegiremos hacer algo con ese tiempo, así es con todo el tiempo que tenemos en nuestras vidas. Si tiene niños pequeños, puede pen-sar y elegir enviarlos a nuestra Escuela Primaria Centro de Diversion este verano. Llame a la escuela de Nuestra Señora de Fátima al 718-429-7031. Nuestra libertad es un don de Dios. Es una bendición. Necesitamos respetar nuestra libertad y usarla lo mejor que podamos. La semana pasada, la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los EE. UU. Pidió a las personas que oren para que se respete la libertad religiosa en lugares y situaciones donde no se ha preservado. En el Memorial de Thomas Moore y John Fisher, la oración era que pudiéramos servir a nuestro país, pero primero ser siervos de Dios. En la solemnidad del Cuerpo de Cristo, la oración debía ser en solidaridad con los cristianos perseguidos en el Medio Oriente, Siria, Irak, Jorda-nia, Nigeria y otras áreas. En la Natividad de Juan el Bautista, las oraciones se dijeron que los candida-tos a cargos en nuestro gobierno no pueden ser sometidos a pruebas religiosas injustas y discriminato-rias. La Conferencia también pidió oraciones por los perseguidos de Rohingya en Bangladesh, para que se ponga fin a la discriminación en la financiación del gobierno para los proveedores de servicios de bienestar infantil basados en la fe que rechazan los servicios cuando están en conflicto con sus creencias religiosas o sus convicciones morales y otros temas de libertad religiosa. Mientras esperamos celebrar el Día de la Independencia el 4 de julio, oremos para que la libertad religiosa y el don de los derechos dados por Dios sean respetados en nuestro país y en todo el mundo.
