Forensic science is defined as the application of science to the law. Forensic scientists are usually involved in
the search for and examinations of physical traces that might be useful in identifying the scene of crime or victim.
Their findings and conclusions are used as evidence in courts of law to solve the crime cases.
Forensic science draws on and brings together many scientific disciplines. DNA testing, microscopy and
spectroscopic analyses are used to conduct chemical tests to identify hair, blood, dirt and cloth fibres.
A forensic scientist may perform many tasks. They can identify illicit drugs, analyse drugs and poison in
human tissue and blood fluids, examine items of human and animal biological materials to be compared with victims
and suspects using DNA profilling. A forensic scientist can also examine drug plants such as cannabis.
To identify whether a document is fake or not, special techniques are used. A case of a house break-in can besolved using forensic science. For example, if the intruder break in without using gloves, traces will be everywhere.
In this situation, a forensic scientist will take samples of finger prints whether at the window, door and so on using
powder and a special duster. These finger prints will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Forensic science also includes identifying firearms and ammunition, examining fire and explosion scenes to
establish the origin and cause of explosion, produce reports as well as appear in court and present a scientific opinionon the accident accurately to commit the suspect as guilty and to provide advice to police investigators, scientists
and pathologists across a broad range of disciplines.

Pottery is one the oldest art forms. This art has been practised in all parts of the world
Pottery began as ancient people struggled to find ways to cook, store and carry water, butwent on to a form of art as people began creating vases and dishes for decorative uses.
There are three major types of pottery which are earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. Each of them have their own characteristics on clay mixture and temperature when baking
and firing. Earthenware is a pottery clay mixture that is fired at a lower temperature which
allows the use of colourful glazes but it can crack and chip off more easily than any othertype. Stoneware pottery is made of a heavier clay mixture that gives it greater strength because it has been fired
at a higher temperature. Porcelain is made from koalin, a fine white clay that is mixed with controlled amounts
of feldspar and then fired at a low temperature. It is the purest and the most delicate type of pottery.
Pottery making is classified into two categories i.e easy and hard. The easy pottery is when the object isshaped with wet clay first and then hardened by baking. It includes both decorative and practical items such as
bowls, vases, dishes and lamps. For the harder types, it is made of baked clay. It includes valuable works of art, inexpensive dinnerware, vases and other simple household items which are made by professional potters.
Pottery making involves four steps. They are preparing the mixture, shaping the clay, decorating and
glazing the item and firing. Different temperatures give the pottery different strength and appearance.

Dear Jamil,
I was shocked to discover that a good friend of mine is down with dengue fever. So, I decided to pay him a visit in the hospita
Armed with a packet of grapes, I made my way to the ward. I was shocked as I saw some of the residents from my neighbourhood i
the same ward. Obviously, they too were down with dengue fever.
I spoke to my father who is the chairman of the Happy Gardens Residents Association about the dengue menace. He called th
residents for a meeting that night. The residents agreed to have a cleanliness campaign to rid the residential area of the Aedes mosqui
which is the carrier of the dengue fever.
That Saturday morning, the residents worked together to clear the area of receptacles that can store water. This is because th
mosquitoes lay eggs in clean and stagnant water. Some of the residents cleared the weeds and dried leaves that clogged the drain. Som
men cut the grass and cleared broken pots as they are excellent breeding grounds.
That night, a health inspector gave a talk on how to avoid the dengue fever. He reminded us that the mosquitoes are active a
dawn and dusk. So, he reminded us to close our windows and doors at these times. He also asked us to spray insecticide at this time t
kill the existing mosquitoes in the house. We were also reminded to lit mosquito coils to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Another goosuggestion will be to sleep under a mosquito net.
Well, I hope that you will adhere to these tips to keep the menacing dengue fever at bay.

The Subang Jaya Police Station,
47500 Subang Jaya,
Selangor Darul Ehsan. 6 AUGUST 2010
Dear Sir,
On behalf of the residents of Taman Bahagia, I would like to shed some light on the plight of the residents here. Our
once peaceful residential area has now become ajoint for road tormentors.
2. All is well by day but come midnight, the broad and well-maintained roads are terrorized by unruly teenage
motorcyclists. These teenagers not only put their lives at stake but the lives of innocent road users who ply this road
on their way home. They are so bold that they harass and torment other road users. Just yesterday, a lady driver with
a child on board had a scare of her life when a group of teenage motorcyclists surrounded her car. They hurledstones at the car, breaking the rear mirror. They grabbed her handbag and took out her cash and cell phone. They
even threatened to harm the child if she did not give her jewellery. They reminded her not to lodge a police report if
she treasured her childs life.3. I urge you to investigate this matter urgently as the lives of the residents of this residential area are at stake. I
insist that you send patrol cars to patrol the area especially at midnight. Hopefully, they will be deterred by the mere
presence of the law.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,Ramlah

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin built there, of clay and wattles made,Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnights all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow
And evening full of the linnets wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and dayI hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shoreWhile I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep hearts core.

C Because he did not have enough money to buy a red pencil
D Because his grandmother had scolded him
39 Why did Zahid buy a pocketknife?

B sliced up the preserved centipedes and snakes
C dumped oil into the pond near his class
D dumped oil into the aquarium
That afternoon Zahid asked his grandmother for some money. He told her it was for a book, but when hearrived at the store, his eyes caught hold of a long, red pencil. Suddenly, he felt sad again and tears rolled
down his cheeks.
No longer did he need a book, or a pencil, or even a ruler. None of those things could help him the most.At last he spotted it- a three inch pocketknife under the glass counter. He bought it right away.
The knife would be just what he needed to keep Dolah away from him. And he might even get more useout of the knife than the pencil. Children are scared of knives, so he would make the blade as sharp as hecould.
He continued going to school, but not to study. His primary victims were children smaller than himself.
He would laugh when they let out a cry or a scream.
He dumped oil into the aquarium on the class nature table, pulled out the ferns and bean plants and thensliced up the preserved centipedes and snakes.

Lokman : What are you doing, Serena?
Serena : Im surfing to gather some information on the Olympic Games.
Lokman : Wow, thats interesting! What have you found out?
Serena : The Olympic Games marked its beginning in April 1896 in Athens. There were 311 athletes who participated
in this game.
Lokman : Im not surprised as the Greeks are renowned for the athletic prowess.
Serena : The Olympic flag was designed by Pierre de Coubertin. There are five intertwined rings of blue, yellow, black, green and red. Do you know what they symbolize?
Lokman : No. Please tell me, Serena.
Serena : They symbolize the five land masses united by their participation in the Olympics.
Each colour of the ring represents a nation.
Lokman : When was the Olympic flag hoisted?
Serena : In fact, there is. The flag which was first hoisted in 1914 in Sorbonne has been in use since 1920.
Do you know that the torch was first introduced by the Olympic Congress in 1925?Lokman : I definitely did not know that. I am curious to know how the torch is lit.
Serena : Oh, okay. The torch was first lit in 1936 in Olympia. Believe me, it was indeed a unique way
of doing it! A concave mirror was placed on a wood and it was kept under the sunlight until it caughtfire. Amazing, isnt it?
Lokman : Simply amazing!
Serena : Well, thats not all! The torch was then carried to Berlin by relay runners. Berlin was then the
host of the Olympic Games.
Lokman : That was truly informative, Serena. Thank you.

between man and animal.
A aloofness
B attachment
C detachment
D indifference
We have often been told that a dog is a mans best friend. Most of us tend to shrug it off as mere nonsense. However, there is some truth in this adage.
A farmer named John Gray lived in Edinburgh with his small-sized shaggy dog, Timmy. They were very close
and wherever they went, they went together. It was a tradition that every Saturday, the farmer would go for his lunch
at a nearby inn. The dog would join the master for lunch at the inn. John would eat a simple lunch while the dog
would be given a bone.
A few years later the farmer died. The owner of the inn was puzzled to see Timmy at the inn. It looked
pleadingly at the owner. Feeling pity, he gave the poor dog a bone. The dog took the bone and ran away.
This routine followed for the next few days. One day, the curious owner decided to follow the dog. He was
amazed to see the faithful dog making a beelinetowards the graveyard. It placed the bone near John Grays graveand sat lovingly beside it. The inn owner was touched by the dogs faithfulness towards its master. As winter was
fast approaching, the inn owner decided to make a shelter for the dog near its masters grave. He would also providea bone a day for the dog.
10 years later, the inn owner came as usual to give the dog a bone. He was shocked to see the dog dead. He
quickly buried the dog near its master. Undeniably, a dog is a mans best friend.

The Lake Isle of Innisfree
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin built there, of clay and wattles made.
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnights all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow
And evening full of the linnets wings.I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey
I hear it in the deep hearts core.William Butler Yeats
Well, that leaves just RM430.00 to be raised. Wait a minute, what if he could save on the bunga telur. After all, they were just hard-boiled eggs. They could boil a lot of eggs which were dirt cheap if bought from the Department
of Agriculture and then they could be handed around on trays. He tried to sell his ideas on the bunga telur to the
womenfolk. His sister glared at him.
And how would peopleknow its the bunga telur for your wedding?
Well, countered Jamal, thats no problem. Well stick sticky labels on them. His sister rolled her eyes indisbelief and smacked her hand on her forehead. Jamal thought that meant dismissal. Those bunga telur could be
quite expensive. He had another brilliant idea which he recounted to his sister.
How about if you distribute Hacks sweets instead of hard-boiled eggs? His last idea was really the last strawfor his sister.

Is the tomato a fruit or vegetable? Of course, it doesnt really matter very much which it is, since we use it inthis country as a vegetable. A fascinating thing about this question is that the Supreme Court of the United States
actually had to decide what tomato is!
Botanically, tomato is a fruit. There can be no question about that. But it is used in soups, sauces and ketchup,
and in many other ways in the main part of the meal. So, for purposes of trade, the Supreme Court in 1893 classified
the tomato as a vegetable! The tomato originated in its wild form in South America in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. Long before
Columbus went to the new world, cultivated forms of the tomato had already been developed in Mexico. And it is
probable that tomatoes from Mexico were the first ones ever seen by people in Europe.
The first definite description of the tomato in Europe was in Italy in 1554, where it was called pomidoro, or
apple of gold. This means that a yellow type of tomato was the first known in Europe. Before the end of thesixteenth century, tomatoes were being grown in the gardens of England, Spain, Italy, France and the countries ofmid-Europe. But they were considered a sort of curiosity.
By the mid-1700s people in several countries of Europe were using the tomato as food and the first person togrow it in the United States was Thomas Jefferson, in 1781. But many people considered the tomato to be poisonous.
It wasnt until about 1900 that it became popular for eating. The tomato plant is a relative of the potato and tobacco plants. It needs a long growing season and light, rich,
well-drained soil. In northern Europe and the northern United States it is often grown in hot-houses during the
winter. Winter tomatoes are picked while green and shipped to northern markets. They ripen on the way to market.

Dear Doctor,
I have been diagnosed as having a severe backache. Can you please give me some tips on how to cope with the
backache?
Laura
Dear Laura,
I am very sorry that you are plagued with this problem. The good news is that you can relieve the pain. Sleep on a firm
mattress as this will keep your back straight. It is also advisable to sleep on your side instead of your back. However, if you
are so used to sleeping on your back, you should use a contour pillow to ensure the spine is straight and reduce the strain on
you back.
It is also advisable not to carry bags on your shoulders as this will aggravate the situation. However, if you do have to
carry a bag, I would recommend a backpack as it has two straps that can be strapped to both shoulders. In this way, the weight
of the back is evenly spread as unequal stress will lead to severe backache.
Finally, try to avoid lifting heavy objects. However, if it is unavoidable, you should bend your knees when lifting as this
will strain your leg muscles rather than your back muscles. This is okay as your leg muscles are stronger than your back
muscles.
If you adhere to these advices, you may be able to relieve your sore back.
