Good news from The National Association of Colleges & Employers Job Outlook 2011 shows that the class of 2011 job market is off to a positive start! Employers reported plans to hire 13.5% more new bachelor’s graduates.

Top Bachelor’s Degrees (broad level): Business, Computer Science, Science, Communications & Liberal Arts

Top 5 Bachelor’s (in the Northeast): Ac-counting, Business Administration/Man-agement, Finance, and Computer Science/Information Technology

Top Liberal Arts Degrees: Psychology, Political Science/Government, English, History and Sociology

Top Science Degrees: Math & Chemistry Top Communication Degrees: Commu-nication Arts, Public Relations

Biggest gap between what employers’ value and what new college recruits bring to the work place is a work ethic (a willingness to put in the needed hours to do the job).Secondly employers find that applicants have weak written communication skills

Finally, nearly half of the respondents expect to increase starting salary offers to the class of 2011 Bachelors graduates.
