“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to take the prize.”
1 Corinthians 9:24
Tēnā koutou katoa The Olympic spirit is alive and well at Maranatha Christian School! We enjoyed a wonderful day on Friday, as the students ran, jumped, kicked and threw their way through sports challenges. While there was plenty of competitive spirit demonstrated, what stood out to me and others present, was the way our students worked together to support one another, have fun and demonstrate a commitment to our L.I.F.E values (Love, Integrity, Faith & Excellence). Way to go, Maranatha Christian School! A BIG thank you to the staff, parents and Kelly Sport for playing their part in making our Olympics Day a huge success!

Fruit Trees at Maranatha!
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunch times saw a hive of activity in the garden as a team of very enthusiastic students dug holes and planted the fruit trees that have been donated to the school. We were
blessed with some lovely sunny days. Thanks to Ian and Jenny who came on Tuesday to help us.
Maranatha Christian School is proud to present a full school

This will be an amazing display of your children’s gifts and talents through
acting, singing and dancing.
All children will be involved, so please let the office/teacher know if they are

MCS Olympics Day—Friday 19 August
With many thanks to Sarah Hamilton for these wonderful pictures
Chocolates!!! We still have 2 boxes of the “All Stars” fundraising chocolate bars left over from the Cultural Celebration Day. If anyone is interested in selling these at work (on our behalf) we would be very grateful! There are 30 bars in each box and they sell for $2 per bar—or you could even buy the whole box for your family for only $60 :-) - we receive $24 profit from each box!. There are 8 different choices in each box! See Sheree in the office if interested.
Bus News
The bus is currently full and there is a waiting list.
Please advise the office as soon as possible if you no longer require the bus so we can offer the space to those on the waiting list.
Thinking of leaving Maranatha? Please remember that one term’s written notice of intention to withdraw your child(ren) from the school is required. Where no, or insufficient notice is given, a fee of one term’s attendance dues will be charged in lieu of notice.
Kia Kaha Programme We had a successful Kia Kaha Programme during week 3 with Constable “Blue” McCaffrey talking to the students in each year level. Make sure you ask your children what they learnt during the week!
World Vision Fundraising
$2,170 Thank you to our school community who supported our students in
raising this amount for the 40 Hour Famine. This year, World Vision used the funds raised to support those in refugee situations around the world.
Congratulations Kayla & Myah!
Wonderful results from recent dance competitions. Kayla and Myah's Jazz troops came in first place, and Kayla and Myah in their duo won a third place! Myah also came first in Jazz Solo and second in her solo lyrical. Congratulations to you both!
And…Congratulations also to Jessie!
Jessie competed at the New Zealand Artistic Roller Skating Championships held in New Plymouth on the 11 - 16 July. She was awarded first place in Juvenile Figures becoming the New Zealand Champion for figures in her age group. She placed second in Juvenile Solo Dance and Third in Juvenile Freeskating. She was the only one in her age group to medal in all three Juvenile events. Please let the office know if your son/daughter has any special achievements we can celebrate with them!
Year 4, 5 & 6 Overnight Camp The first correspondence about Term 4’s two day (one night) camp at The Wellesley Camp, Akatarawa (27 - 28 October) went home this week. A parent information meeting has been set for Monday 12 Sep-tember from 5.00 - 5.45pm.
Important Information—Parking & Pick-ups/Drop-Offs To ensure the safety of our children, we emphasise the importance of keeping to the Parent Handbook rules about parking, school drop offs and pick ups. Please take note of the following which has been copied from the Parent Handbook:
Before and After School Before school, children are to play in areas where they will not be in the way of vehicles.
Students are encouraged to be outside to get fresh air and exercise before lessons begin. After school, all children who are not on the bus must wait in the courtyard until their
parents collect them. If a parent/caregiver is running late, students must remain in their classroom, or in the courtyard until 3.10pm. After 3.10pm students will have the option to remain in class or in the courtyard, or to play on the bottom court – outside the office (weather permitting) until they are collected. Once a late parent/caregiver arrives, we ask that they walk down to the school to escort their child/ren to the car. Where it is not possible for a parent/caregiver to walk down to the school, their child/ren may walk down the path to meet them (only once the parent/caregiver has arrived in the carpark). If you are going to be much later than expected, please contact the school office to arrange for your child/ren to be placed in our “After School Care” programme.
Once children are collected, responsibility is passed from the school to the parents for their
child’s safety and behaviour. Parking Vehicles that are dropping off or collecting children must park in the top hard court area. For
safety reasons parents are asked not to drive past the chain down the driveway to park outside the admin block. Please do not park on the bus parking space at any time. The bus has ‘right of way’, eg please let the bus enter or exit the premises before you, and give the driver sufficient area to reverse when required.

My name is Tegan Lynch and I am conducting an online study as part of my PhD research at Victoria University of Wel-
lington, under the direct supervision of Professor Vanessa Green with secondary supervision provided by Professor Paul
Jose.
In this study, I am asking parents and caregivers about social peer situations involving their children, their experiences of
these, and will then ask parents if they experienced anything similar when they were growing up. Most of the questions will
be concerned with negative peer experiences.
Participants in this study need to be a parent or caregiver (this can include grandparents, aunt/uncles, or anyone else who
acts as a main caregiver or guardian) who has at least one school-aged child. Participation in this survey is voluntary and
anonymous.
To acknowledge participants’ time spent on the survey, there will be an opportunity to go into a draw to win one of 100
$20 New World vouchers/gift cards.
I have made a website at www.kidsandpeers.com where potential participants can learn more about the overall research
project and from there they are linked to the questionnaire.
Thank you for any help you are able to provide. Kind regards,
Tegan Lynch
