Wow; what a night! Going by all the responses received, it sounds as if we all agree that the show was absolutely brilliant! The success of ‘King of the Universe, Coming King’ was due to the contributions of many people in the school and wider community. First and foremost, we give thanks to God for the gift of creativity and team work. I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mrs Thom. As Sandy (BOT chair) said last night, Nellie was the glue that held it all together. Thank you, Nellie, for your direction, vision, organisation and vast expertise and experience. It is with regret that we have received the resignation of Tracy Nel as from the end of this term. We will be really sad to see her go. We wish her all the best as she takes up her new position at Taita College. Tania Gordon will return to teach room 3. We also farewell Nicky Kelso (teacher trainee in room 2), and wish her well in her career. This will be the last school newsletter for term 3. I wish you all a productive last few days of term, and a blessed time with your precious children over the 2 week break. God bless you. Debbie Middleton National standards achievement—2011 The NZ Herald intends to publish these results on 30th September. This will be the same day as the information will be released on the Ministry of Education “Education Counts” website. The information will be published as an addition to the ‘Find a School’ web pages. Under each school page there will be a Tab entitled ‘National Standards’ which will have an exact copy of the achievement data as supplied by the school. http://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/

Debbie Middleton - Principal

Dear Maranatha Christian School Community, I write this on the day after the big night — the production. Wow; what a night! Going by all the responses received, it sounds as if we all agree that the show was absolutely brilliant! The success of ‘King of the Universe, Coming King’ was due to the contributions of many people in the school and wider community. From Room 2:

My seven weeks as a student teacher at Maranatha Christian School have flown by and I can't quite believe this is my last week! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching in Room 2 and have been made to feel very welcome by the Room 2 students, as well as the wider Maranatha Christian School students, families and teachers community. They are all very polite, helpful and respectful, a true indication of the important values of the Christian faith carried out in the classroom environment.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks at allowing me to learn and grow my teaching skills alongside your wonderful teaching team and students. Also a special thank you to Liz for allowing me to share her classroom, she has been an amazing associate teacher and has assisted me greatly on my teaching journey. Nicky Kelso

National Standards 2012—End of cycle reports, term 3: There are some students from the junior syndicate who will receive reports at the end of this term. These are only for students who: (1) have just reached the end of a period for National Standards reporting i.e. they have attended school for 40 weeks or 80 weeks or 120 weeks. (2) are mid way through the cycle i.e. they have attended school for 20 weeks, 60 weeks or 100 weeks.

Touch Rugby:

Your child will be asked if they would like to play Touch Rugby for the School. We are offering Thursday or Friday afternoons this season, anywhere between 3.45 and 5.45 (usually juniors are earlier). Total cost for this season (October 24th till end of year) $25 per child. Maximum $40 per family. No cost if you offer to coach at school during the week and manage them on the game nights (no need to ref). You will get an email with a link to an online form to fill in if your child shows interest. Thanks Craig McDonald

Lost Property: Levi Watkins lost his jersey and it is clearly labeled. 2nd hand boys’ school shoes (size 4) and sandals (size 3) up for grabs. A pair of eye glasses was picked up at the car park, if you know of anyone looking for it.

Please return reading books:

Over the holidays we will be doing a stock-take of all the reading books in the junior and middle school, in order to buy replacement books where there are gaps in sets. PLEASE look carefully through your house and return any reading books you have, so that we do not spend our budget replacing books instead of buying lovely new titles.
