Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Contemporary Rite p. 63

Hymn of Faith p. 13 vv. 1 & 3 Penitential Rite, p. 66

Entrance Hymn V. For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been His counselor? Or who has given Him anything that He might be repaid? R. Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer! V. Glory be… R. As it was… A Reading from the Book of Wisdom. Wisdom 9:13-18

Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the LORD intends? For the deliberations of mortals are timid, and unsure are our plans. For the corruptible body burdens the soul and the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many con-cerns. And scarce do we guess the things on earth, and what is within our grasp we find with difficulty; but when things are in heaven, who can search them out? Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high? And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm

In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge. (Psalm 90) A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philemon. Philemon 9-10, 12-17

I, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus, urge you on behalf of my child Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment; I am sending him, that is, my own heart, back to you. I should have liked to retain him for myself, so that he might serve me on your behalf in my imprisonment for the gospel, but I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that the good you do might not be

Deacon’s Dialogue Rev. Mr. Richard Kasprzak

And here it is, September 4. So when was the last “Holy Day of Obligation?” Before I let you all know, lets review something, which I find quite interesting. There are in a year Three Hundred and Sixty Five Days (365), not counting leap year, which adds one more day, most of the time. So lets eliminate Sundays, which we all know are a day of obligation for all who can attend, those without a valid excuse, of course. If you are ill, home-bound, etc., then of course you are excused from attending Mass. That means that in a year, taking 52 days from 365 days, leaving us with 313 weekdays that are ours. Now, how many Days of Obligation are there? Eight? Six? Five? Three? (I Had to mix the odd and even num-bers, so as not to offend}. Nope, there are four {4} Holy Days of Obligation that we are obliged, as P.N.C.C. Catho-lics, to attend Mass. Now here is a kicker – if the Day of Obligation falls on a Sunday, which leaves two (2) days that we are obliged to attend Mass. Which two (2) T.B.C………………………………..? P.S. So, when was the last Holy Day of Obligation?Hmmmmmmmmmm

St Rosalia, Virgin September 4

St. Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, was a descendant of the great Charlemagne. She was born at Palermo in Sicily. In her youth, her heart turned from earthly vanities to God. She left her home and took up her abode in a cave, on the walls of which she wrote these words: "I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisqui-na, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ." She remained there entirely hidden from the world. She practiced great mortifications and lived in constant communion with God. Afterward she transferred her abode to Mount Pellegrino, about three miles from Palermo, in order to triumph entirely over the instincts of flesh and blood, in sight of her paternal home. She is said to have appeared after death and to have revealed that she spent several years in a little excavation near the grotto. She died alone, in 1160, ending her strange and wonder-ful life unknown to the world. Her body was discovered several centuries later, in 1625, during the pontificate of Pope Urban VIII.

forced but voluntary. Perhaps this is why he was away from you for a while, that you might have him back forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a brother, be-loved especially to me, but even more so to you, as a man and in the Lord. So if you re-gard me as a partner, welcome him as you would me. This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation

V. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia V. Let your face shine upon your servant; and teach me your laws. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. Lk 14:25-33

Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sis-ters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its com-pletion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, ‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’ Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ.

A Note From the Pastor!

This week, we celebrate Labor Day. We remember those who sacrificed so much for the rights of workers in the USA. Organized labor plays a large part both in the founding of the PNCC and in most of our families.

Let us be thankful for those who fought for the rights of all of us in our working conditions, pensions, retirement and child labor laws.

Have a blessed week! Fr. John
