How to use Past Perfect Tense
1. We use Past Perfect Tense to express an action that happened before another action in the past.
• I had eaten sandwich before I left home.• After she had used the toilet, she washed her hands.• The movie had already started when we arrived the cinema.• I didn’t eat with them because I had eaten before.
2. We use Past Perfect Tense to express an action started in the past and continued until anotheraction happened.
• I had studied for 2 years when I took the exam.• George Washington had prepared his army for 6 months.• She had never gone bungee jumping so she was really excited.• They had taken care of their grandson until his mother stopped working.
