Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) Polymer Characteristics�Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a partially crystalline,�high temperature performance polymer that has the�chemical structure shown in the figure on the right. This�polymer has a high melting point of approximately 280°C, excellent�chemical resistance and is inherently flame retardant. It possesses�self-extinguishing properties without the addition of any flame�retardant chemical additives.�
DIC Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) Leads The Way in�Automotive Component Applications�Automotive component applications represent the market�seg�ment�where PPS will continue to experience significant growth. In addition�to exhibiting excellent elevated temperature performance and�chemical resistance (to gasoline, engine/transmission fluids), there�exist cost reduction benefits associated with increased productivity�through injection molding. In recent years, PPS has successfully�replaced metal, aromatic nylons (PPA, 46 nylon), phenolic polymers�and bulk molding compounds (BMC) in a wide variety of engineered�vehicle components.�

Largest Global Capacity for PPS�DIC� remains the largest global producer of both linear and�branched PPS products. In response to the increasing global�demand for PPS,�DIC� has established an annual production�capability of 13,500 tons by expanding polymer capacity in�2009.
