Dear All
We have two weeks left until we break up for Easter. Between now and the 29th March there are a number of things that students and parents need to be aware of. The Parents Evening booking system opens at 4.00pm on Monday 19th March, Friday 23rd March is a non-uniform day in support of a charity nominated by Warwick House. On Wednesday 28th March we have our GCSE Dance Show starting at 6.30pm in the school hall. Reports will go out to parents on Thursday 29th March. Students should enjoy the Easter break and we are all too aware of the fact that this is a critical point in the year for Years 11 and 13 in particular. I have no doubt that they will be working hard over the holidays but I would urge them to eat well, get some rest and make sure they get the balance right between preparing for exams and doing other things. Focus on key areas and topics and use a wide variety of resources to get support. You can do it!

Reading is a key component of school life; students are asked to read text books, PowerPoints, the board, their own work and that of others, stories, poems…the list goes on. In fact, Reading is fundamental to functioning in society from filling out applications to reading instructions on a medicine bottle! But Reading can also be more than just a function – it can be fun!
We can all agree that Reading develops the mind. It is how we discover new things, new ideas, new knowledge and it allows our imagination to flourish. It involves an active engagement between the page and the reader rather than one which is passive – TV and film show us the image but with the written word we create our own pictures. Reading allows a person to go anywhere in the world...or even out of it! They can be a king, an adventurer, a scientist, a dragon rider..... The possibilities are endless.

The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise and understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Encouraging young adults to read helps them develop their language skills, it broadens their vocabulary, it helps them to focus on what someone else is communicating.
At Polesworth, we encourage our students to develop themselves through reading, to broaden their understanding of their studies but also to embrace the wonderful stories that can be found in books. Each week, our students have a Reading session as part of their tutorial programme and our study centre offers all students a warm, safe and comfortable place to find a good book! Please support us by encouraging your children in their reading for knowledge and pleasure – Reading is not just for primary school, it is for life.
Thank you for reading……

Hospitality and Catering (Vocational Award) Level 1/2
WJEC Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering has been designed to support learners in
schools and colleges who want to learn about this vocational
sector and the potential it can offer them for their careers or further
study. It is most suitable as a foundation for further study. This
further study would provide learners with the opportunity to
develop a range of specialist and general skills that would support
their progression to employment.
Employment in hospitality and catering can range from waiting
staff, receptionists and catering assistants to chefs, hotel and bar managers and food
technologists working for supermarket chains. All of these roles require further education and
training either through apprenticeships or further and higher education.
Course Structure
Unit 1 : The hospitality and catering industry. Assessment: Exam.
Unit 2: Hospitality and catering in action . Assessment: Coursework
OCR National Level 1/2 in Engineering Design
The UK is in the business of high added value, high technology, sustainable engineering and
manufacturing. OCR has listened to, and worked closely with, employers such as JCB, Siemens
and Rolls-Royce, and professional bodies like the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as the
University of Northampton and teachers from schools and University Technical Colleges, to make
sure that the next generation of young engineers is equipped with the skills demanded by
employers in the engineering community. Cambridge Nationals deliver these skills across the
whole range of learning styles and abilities, effectively engaging and inspiring all students to
achieve great things.
The Cambridge Nationals in Engineering provide sufficient breadth to
maintain the skills central to engineering while also allowing specialist
skills to be developed.
Engineering design is a process used to develop and enhance new
products and systems as a response to market opportunities. This
qualification is an opportunity for your students to study the processes
involved in designing new engineered products. They’ll use practical
skills such as drawing, computer modelling and model making to communicate design ideas.
there will be 3 coursework tasks and one examination. The qualification will also encourage them
to consult with a client and, with its practical focus, will engage them in producing, testing and
evaluating a prototype in the form of a model.
