  • Description:A business card for a small etsy store that sells handmade ornaments and sculpture.

    Date: March 1, 2015

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 11Emily Kunz

    Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign

Objectives:Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process: The pickle image was created in Illustrator with the pen and shape tools. I used Segoe Script, but fashioned tails for some of the letters using Illustrator. I wanted the tails to mimic the lower swoop of the pickle as much as possible. The pickle image was enlarged and lowered in opacity to create the other designs.

  • Description:An insperational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

    Date: February 15, 2015

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 11Emily Kunz

    Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn to manage Photoshop layers.Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks.Use filters.Apply appropriate typography.

Process: This image was created in Photoshop. The background image was adjusted for levels and for vibrance. The picture to the left was flipped horizontally and resized. The image to the right was also resized and then adjusted for levels, vibrance, and color so that it matched better the image of the Savior. Both images received a filter by copying the layer, then adding a filter and masking out part of the image using a brush tool. A tan/brick color was then chosen from the image and used for the font.

  • Description:Three logo variations for the same company.

    Date: February 21, 2015

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 11Emily Kunz

    Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process: I made numerous sketches before beginning in order to generate some ideas. I was told that an image of an alien eating might not be appetizing to most folks, so I avoided anything too far out of this world. The logos were then created entirely with Illustrator. I began with an image of the earth and traced around the continents with the pen tool. The fork was surprisingly tricky and the first draft was just various shapes grouped togeth-er. The grouped image, however, put a fill color be-tween the fork prongs. After much trial and error I was able to achieve a fully joined and closed image for the fork. All the other shapes were made using shape tools or line tools except for the moon spots and those were done with a pen tool.

  • Description:A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

    Date: March 29, 2015

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Microsoft Word

Objectives:Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.Incorporate quality images. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign.Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process: The brochure was created with Adobe InDesign. Photos were edited with Photoshop to make certain colors stand out a bit more and a few were given a more fluid, organic border. I inserted the images into the InDesign document and wrapped the text around them. The logo was created with Illustrator. The text was written with Microsoft Word and then placed into the document in sections to correspond to the images.

    Date: February 1, 2015

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 11Emily Kunz

Program(s)/Tools: Microsoft Word, Xerox copier, Cannon Printer

Objectives:Find, scan and import a high-quality image.Create a full-bleed designUse text boxes for layout in Word.Insert and edit images in Word.

Process: Picture was scanned with a Xerox copier. I placed the image into Word and began laying out text boxes against the scanned image. I chose a dark green and a contrasting brick color from the image for the font s. to match the main color in the image and then contrasted it with a bright brick color. I used a line of bright brick color text and a matching bar to repeat the pops of bright brick. I used a white fill and made it transparent so that it repeated the color of the lilies and kept some underlying texture as well.
