2015 Quilt Fiesta!

From the Quilt Fiesta Directors Just a reminder for those who did not attend the Holiday gathering Tues-day night and Wednesday morning in December and will not be attending the meetings in January 2015. Please remember to leave purses at home or put them in the trunk of your car before leaving home. Do not put them in your trunk in the park-ing lot at TCC. Wear fanny packs to store your money and credit cards. We are having a sack sitting booth, but it is not for purses. The sack sit-ting booth is just for your purchases. The tables up front by Door Prizes are also not available for storing purses or jackets. Wear very comfortable shoe and clothing. The floors at TCC are cement and very hard on tender feet. Please show up a little early for your appointed times for hostess duty. This booth is also not a storage place for purses, jackets, etc. If you are able to do more than one hostess shift a day, please let the committee know. Volunteers are always needed for hanging and take down. Please let these committees know they can count on you. The show is an entire group effort and is always such a terrific show. Help to make this show even better. TCC has also asked us to remind everyone that: The only animals per-mitted in to the show are Designated Service Animals. No outside food or beverages are permitted, this includes bottled water. And please, no heli-um balloons.

Small Quilt Auction

Our Guild is filled with talented, creative and generous members. Be sure to come visit the Small Quilt Gallery during the 2015 Quilt Fiesta. We are located by the entrance to the Demonstration Area. This year, as always, we have a nice selection of quilts. We have Red Work Quilts, with Red Work blocks dating to the 1920’s- 1930’s. We have lovely landscape quilts and botanicals. There are Western themed quilts, bright, cheerful, applique floral wreath quilts, two sunflower quilts, a puzzle quilt, and a Mariner’s Compass quilt. There is a quilt perfect for an Arizona Wild Cat Fan. There are several animal themed quilts, perfect for a grandchild to love. We have several quilts that have combined quilting with counted cross stitching. There are quilts in beautiful colors, quilts with fun embellishments, quilts with intricate quilting, quilts that will make you smile. You may find a quilt that is call-ing your name, or a quilt that would brighten up someone’s work cubi-cal, or is perfect for a grandchild’s room, or a perfect gift for a good friend. And if you purchase a quilt, remember all proceeds from the auction go to Mobile Meals of Tucson, a Tucson based organization that delivers meals to the home bound.

Barbara Heiman and Betty Anderson

Kids Row

We are happy to report that we have 13 quilts with 10 kids participating in Kid’s Row. Each entrant will be receiving an email by the end of De-cember with instructions for dropping off their quilt to their chosen local shop. Quilts should be dropped off on or before January 14, 2015. Quilts should have a label on the back and be placed in a bag (preferably a pillow case) clearly labeled with the maker’s name and Tucson Quilt Fiesta Kid’s Row. Quilts will be available for pick-up at the same drop-off location on the Monday afternoon after the quilt show. For information contact: Pat Morris 749-4806 or Jean Owara 298-6325 or email: [email protected]

Take Down Committee

We still need 30 to 40 more helpers for Take Down on Sunday, January

25th. Take Down begins at 4 pm and if we have enough help we are

usually done by 6 pm. Our biggest need is people willing to help take

down the frames. You will need a pair of work gloves for this job. We

happily accept help from husbands, sons, daughters, nephews and

nieces. For safety reasons, take down must be completed before quilts

can be picked up

We will have sign- up sheets at the January meetings, or you can

phone me at 579-1726.

We are also looking for 1or 2 people willing to co-chair this committee

for next year.

Rafle Tickets

We are nearing the end of our Raffle Ticket selling or buying time and I want to thank all of you again for participating in this very important effort.

I also want to thank all of our wonderful local Quilt Shops for their kind and generous donations to my prize stash. These donations as well as donations from the Door Prize Committee were used to make up the prize bags awarded for highest monthly sales.

Congratulations to Sari Gertson for her high sales again for the month of November.

If you have not already turned in your ticket stubs and money, please try to get it to me at the January meetings or mail them to me before the quilt show. I would prefer that you do not wait until the quilt show to turn them in, but if you have the need for that, please seal the stubs and mon-ey in an envelope with your name on it and bring it to me at the raffle tick-et table at the show.

Have a wonderful holiday and safe travels, see you all in the new year.

Quilt For A Cause, Inc.

The quilts are coming in! Thanks so much to generous TQG

members and others who have already donated quilts to Quilt

For A Cause! We will offer some of them for sale at the “buy

me now” price in our expanded booth at the Tucson Quilt Fiesta,

January 23-25. We invite you to tell your friends, and we hope

everyone will stop by and see what we have to show and sell. As

for the past 12 years, the money raised will be used here in

Tucson to help win the fight against breast and gynecologic can-

cers. Thank you quilters -- we are making a difference!

If you have made a quilt to donate to Quilt For a Cause, please

put a 3” sleeve on the back, bring it (and a donation form) to the

Come and see us throughout the year; we have KITS for Quilts, Pillow Cases, Heart Pillows, and Stockings. We also have tops that need to be quilted. There still is a demand for Patriotic Quilts; a good size is 45" x 50" or 60" long.

Arizona Quilt Documentation Project – Tucson

In January, the documentation team will document selected quilts from Quilt Fiesta’s Vintage Quilt Turning. The quilts range from the oldest in the exhibit, a Cherry Wreath appliqué quilt, dated 1854, to another dated 1873 in exquisite cross stitch, to one made of rectangles from a shirt sample book and other quilts from the middle of the 20th century.

If you have questions about quilt documentation or would like to join the Tucson team,

please call or email Tucson liaisons Sue Franklin, (520.490.4721; suevet-

[email protected]) or Terry Gryzb-Wysocki, (520.749.9326; terry-

[email protected]). New members are welcome. Training sessions are held from

9:30 until 12:30 at the Ellie Towne Flowing Wells Community Center on Ruthruff

Road.

President’s Blocks

There’s still time to make a “thank you block” for Reilly Zoda,

whose 2-year term of President will be up in February. The

easy pattern, Cat in the Barn Door, was in the December

newsletter.

It’s also available on the Guild’s website,

TucsonQuiltersGuild.com. Just scroll down the left hand side

of the first page (no password required for this) and click on

Challenges, Forms and Handouts, then click on President’s

Blocks for President Reilly. Let’s shower her with a lot of

pretty kitty blocks as thanks for being a wonderful president.

Please turn in to V.P. Sally Dickinson or Evelyn George at the

Pattern of the Month table, at our January or February

meetings. Thanks!
