For Action: 4/19/2016 SUPERINTENDENT’S RECOMMENDATION: Travel requests summarized in Exhibit 13A be approved with the understanding that amounts listed are maximum. BACKGROUND: Current travel requests according to major fund source are listed in Exhibit 13A. These requests are submitted for approval in accordance with Board Procedure 6213 (Active Procedure 7250.1) and include all estimated travel costs except for conference registration fees. The budgeted and year-to-date expenditure figures are listed at the bottom of the exhibit. The vouchers audited and certified by the auditing officer as required by RCW 42.24.080, and those expense reimbursement claims certified as required by RCW 42.24.090, are presented for the consideration of the board. In addition, payroll warrants and electronic transfers in the amount of $16,942,998.89 as well as canceled warrants, recalled and rejected electronic transfers, replacement checks, and non-warrant expenditures not previously submitted are presented for approval. 14 Facilities/Operations - Jack McLeod Agenda Item #14.1 REGULAR AGENDA Award of Architectural and Engineering Contract Highland Middle School

For Action: 4/19/2016 SUPERINTENDENT’S RECOMMENDATION: That the Superintendent, or his designee, be authorized to enter into a contract for the amount of $4,985,864 with McGranahan Architects for the architectural and engineering services for Highland Middle School. BACKGROUND: On March 16, 2016, the District received Request for Qualification submittals from six architectural firms interested in providing Architectural and Engineering services for Highland Middle School. On March 31, 2016 McGranahan Architects was selected as the successful firm, based on formal interviews with a team comprised of Highland and District facilities staff members. The scope of work work includes programming, schematic design, design development and construction documents as well as bidding, construction contract administration and project close-out. The contract has been negotiated at $ 4,985,864.00. McGranahan Architects has successfully completed Medina and Spiritridge Elementary School projects. ATTACHMENTS: None

Tyee 7th and 8th Graders to Cuba

A request has been received from Erica Mallin, a counselor at Tyee Middle School, to travel with approximately 25 students from Tyee Middle School on April 8, 2017 through April 16, 2017 to Cuba. The objective of this trip is to extend Social Studies learning and participate in unique cultural opportunities. Erica Mallin and 2 additional chaperones will be accompanying the students.

The cost of this trip is approximately $93,125.00 which includes housing, transportation and registration. All costs to be paid by families and scholarships. 44B.1.2

Sammamish High Skills USA to Louisville, Kentucky

A request has been received from Tom Danielsen, a teacher at Sammamish High School, to travel with approximately 6 students from Sammamish High School on June 19, 2016 through June 25, 2016 to Louisville, TN. The objective of this trip is that students will develop leadership skills by representing Washington State in SHS course related and industry relevant competitive events and team building opportunities. Tom Danielsen and 1 additional chaperone will be accompanying the students.

The cost of this trip is approximately $11,400.00 which includes housing, transportation and registration. All costs to be paid by families and scholarships.

Newport HS Football Team to Central Washington University

A request has been received from Drew Oliver, a coach at Newport High School, to travel with approximately 80 students from Newport High School on June 23, 2016 through June 26, 2016 to Central Washington University to attend Football Camp. The objective of this trip is to participate in Co-Curricular Activities and Team Bonding. Drew Oliver and approximately 6 additional football coach chaperones will be accompanying the students.

The cost of this trip is approximately $27,300.00 which includes housing, transportation and registration. All costs to be paid by families and scholarships. 44B.1.4  

Interlake High to Nashville, TN

A request has been received from David Bennett, a teacher at Interlake High School, to travel with approximately 4 female students from Interlake High School on June 21, 2016 through June 26, 2016 to Nashville, Tennessee. The objective of this trip is to compete at the HOSA Internationals competition. David Bennett and 1 additional chaperone will be accompanying the students.

The cost of this trip is approximately $5,960.00 which includes housing, transportation and registration. All costs to be paid by families and scholarships.

All Latina/Latino High School students to University of Washington

A request has been received from Shomari Jones, the Director of Equity at the Bellevue School District, to travel with approximately 30 Latina/Latino High School students from All High Schools on May 13, 2016 to May 14, 2016 to the University of Washington-Seattle campus to attend the Movimietno Estudientil Chicana/Chicano de Aztlan University of Washington Conference. The objective of this trip is to engage high school students on college life and Latinx & Chicanx issues. Shomari Jones and 1 additional chaperone will be accompanying the students.

The cost of this trip is approximately $575.00 which includes housing, transportation and registration. All costs to be paid by the Department of Equity.
