Job Description

JOB TITLE: Respect Worker – Children and Young People

SALARY: NJC points 20 - 26

RESPONSIBLE TO: Project Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Volunteers and student placements

HOURS: 1x 37hrs - 1x 18.5hrs

LEAVE: 26 Days + Bank Holidays pro rata

Flexible working patterns will be required to meet the needs of the project and will include evening and weekend work. Staff may be required to work in various locations. Annual leave and time off in lieu to be taken with the prior agreement of your line manager._______________________________________________________________________________OVERALL OBJECTIVESUsing the accredited Respect toolkit, you will provide a structured programme of support to children and young people (aged 10 – 16 years) to enable them to overcome abusive behaviour within the family home.

To operate in accordance with best practice and within the policies and procedures of IDAS._______________________________________________________________________________PARTICULAR TASKS OF THE POSTHOLDER

Support of Children / Young People / Families

To assess the needs of children and young people on an individual basis in relation to their experiences of domestic abuse and provide appropriate individual support.

Using the Respect toolkit to work with children and young people and their parents to help minimise the child’s harmful behaviours and to challenge negative perceptions.

To work with children and young people to develop their confidence, self-esteem and practical skills.

To work with children and young people to help minimise their harmful behaviours and to challenge negative perceptions.

To carry out safety planning with children and young people living with domestic abuse.

To undertake the DASH-RIC (domestic abuse risk assessment) with adults where this is required and to complete further safety planning work as a result of this.

To work in conjunction with adult support workers to assess the whole family and to provide appropriate support to adult victims and their children.

To develop and deliver a programme of activities and events to assist children to overcome the negative effects of domestic abuse.

To act as an advocate for children, attending school, court and child protection case conferences where required.

To make referrals to external agencies, counsellors and to the refuge where this is the most appropriate course of action.

To set up and run peer support groups.

To highlight safeguarding concerns and report these to appropriate agencies.

Internal and External Liaison and communicationTo communicate positively with colleagues and promote IDAS values and ethos across the organisation.

To attend and participate positively in relevant meetings, training, supervision and annual appraisals.

To liaise with and train external agencies to increase public awareness of the issues surrounding domestic abuse.

To promote the work of Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS) modelling a high standard of professional behaviours.

To represent IDAS at appropriate meetings and forums.

To develop positive links with voluntary and statutory agencies.

To keep up-to-date with national and local government decisions pertinent to IDAS.

To work with policy makers and planners to ensure that services are set up to meet the needs of children.

To participate in fundraising activities.

To raise awareness in schools.

To represent IDAS at appropriate meetings and fora.

To attend and participate positively in supervision and annual appraisals.

AdministrationTo maintain clear records relating to clients in line with IDAS’s policies and procedures. OtherTo keep up-to-date with national and local government decisions, relevant legislation and policy developments in relation to children.

To attend training appropriate to IDAS in consultation with the line Manager.To work on a flexible basis with some unsociable hours to meet the needs of the project.

To undertake all other reasonable tasks requested by the management team or board of trustees.
