From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane February 2020, Dear Parishioners: On the opposite page you will find the Parish Financial Summary for the fiscal year that ended on August 31, 2019. I trust you will review the statement carefully.

As you can see, this last past fiscal year shows a slight decrease in collections along with less bequests and wills from the previous year.

The primary increase in spending has come from our outstanding mortgage. So last year we paid, $490,000 for our mortgage. We will now increase the payment for this year to $609,000 which will result in an in-crease in our overhead of $110,000 per year.

Needless to say, none of this would be possible without your outstanding generosity and continued financial support for our wonderful parish. I am ever grateful to you and assure you of my continued thoughts and prayers. I am blessed to serve you and thank you for the privilege of allowing me to share my priesthood and faith with all of you.

As we celebrate 175 years of St. Joseph’s Church may God bless the good work that we do together in building up God’s Kingdom here on earth.

In Christ,

Father John M Lagiovane Pastor

Thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Chang for donating a digital Zimbelstern addition for our Church’s magnificent Austin pipe organ.

The Zimbelstern is a musical instrument which rings small bells at random as an accompaniment to organ music. The Zimbelstern has been used for centuries in sacred music, churches and cathedrals. The word Zimbelstern means “cymbal-star”. Original Zimbelsterns were made in the shape of a star with small bells at each point. The star was turned, either manually or pneumatically, and the bells were struck by stationary clappers mounted around the star.

Not everyone will notice the Zimbelstern when it is first played as an overtone to festive or triumphant music, but like the glockenspiel (“bell-player”) in the orchestra, you will catch its brilliant voice right away!

Respect Life Book Discussion My Name is Kenny I Can’t Talk by Lynda Holler

Saturday, February 29th 9:00 – 11:00 AM

Lynda Holler, a resident of Brewster and parishioner of St. Lawrence O’Toole, had the rare opportunity to see the impact her FDNY husband Kenny was making on the people in his life. After he died from a 21-year battle with oral cancer, she interviewed over 200 people that knew him at all levels of acquaintance and the words she heard were life-altering. Her book reveals through the words of these witnesses, the power of love, friendship, suffering, and the truth that our lives have value until the very end. Join us for Lynda’s presentation and meaningful small group discussion to unpack the perspectives and powerful candor revealed in these chapters. Books will be available for sale before and after the program. It isn’t necessary to read the book in advance.
