INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session

is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-Catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman

Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at 732-257-7722.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, These past Sundays we have been listening at Mass to the fifth chapter of the Gospel of St.Matthew, the Sermon on the Mount. Here Our Lord calls His Disciples to reflect on the virtues of the Kingdom of God. The Beat-itudes are set before us to awaken us to a deeper understanding of human life and des-tiny. To live as disciples we must cherish the poor and the humble, be a thirst for mercy and justice and make peace our lasting goal. If we do this we will be the salt of the earth and light for the world. In Today's Gospel, Our Lord calls us to a deeper conversion of the heart. The law is not fulfilled merely as an outward ob-servance of rules, but as an inner call to holiness, and a desire to live in accordance with the Wisdom of God. This is a call to a life long conversion, to be imitators of Christ and to model our lives on His exam-ple. May we continue to pray for one another. Pax Christi, Fr. Thomas

February is Catholic Press Month – a time to promote the good work of Catholic publications nationwide. We ask you do so by encouraging your parishioners to read The Catholic Spirit. Catholic Press Month is also the time that your parishioners are asked to support The Catholic Spirit with a donation. Last year they responded very generously to our appeal. We know, however, that we need you for our campaign to be successful. Please express your support for The Catholic Spirit from the pulpit – even a few words will go a long way. Distributed in all parishes, the print edition of The Catholic Spirit is read by nearly 20,000 people, while countless others read the paper online. Let your parishioners know that we need their help to contin-ue distributing the paper to our parishes as well as hospitals, nursing homes, and even prisons. We believe The Catholic Spirit can truly benefit your parishioners. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you.

February 11, 2017 What a joyful Catholic Schools’ Week we celebrated at St. Bar-tholomew School! We were honored to welcome Bishop Chec-chio, and celebrated his visit with the entire student body per-forming a flash mob as he entered. Please visit our Facebook page or Youtube EBTV to see the wonderful performance! Students also participated in Village of 100 and Penny Wars to raise money for the Ozanam Shelter. So far, almost $2,000.00 was raised! Our students are most generous! We enjoyed the Faculty vs Eighth Grade Volleyball Game and School Spirit Day. Our students did a great job celebrating literacy at the Literacy Fair and learned about taking care of our planet with performances by the George Street Playhouse Touring Theater and visit from Blue Robot from Middlesex County College. We ended the week just as we started, celebrating Mass, and with a wonderful night of playing Bingo! Thank you to all who helped to make our celebration so successful! Through the generosity of our school and parish families, we have purchased the VGo robot, so that Tyler may attend school in real time and interact with his teachers and peers. This is a truly amazing gift, and I am so grateful to all who made this possible. Kindergarten conferences took place on February 8 and 9. The Sweetheart Dance will take place on February 11. Join us for a Paint Party on February 17. Mission Fair will be held on Feb-ruary 14, and students may add pink, red, or white to their uni-forms. Our eighth grade students will visit the Holocaust Muse-um in Washington D.C. on February 20. Please see the commu-nication envelope for details about our wonderful events. Information about the upcoming Arts and Crafts Club and Spring Track may be found in the communication envelope. Please remember that, for the safety of all our students, we are a nut-free facility. Please ensure that all food items sent to school align with this policy. Please note that school will be closed on March 17 instead of an early dismissal. We are continuing to enroll students in Pre-Kindergarten 3 through Grade 8 for the 2017-2018 school year. Please call the School Office at 732-254-7105 to schedule a tour. Thank you for all you do so that we may continue to offer a high-quality Catholic education. Have a blessed week. GoGod bless you, Mrs. Ann Wierzbicki, R.N., M.A.E./Ed.S. Principal

St. Bartholomew School requests Box Tops for Education Thank you to all our parishioners that have been saving their Box Tops and bringing them to the gift shop! St. Bartholo-mew School thanks you and the students thank you! If you haven’t already been dropping off your Box Tops, St. Bar-tholomew School is asking all parishioners to save their Box Tops for Education. Box tops are the little pink coupon found on over 250 participating products. It's easy to find Box Tops…in fact; you may have some in your home right now. Participating products include but are not limited to General Mills Cereals, Food Storage Bags, Paper Products, Green Giant Produce, Frozen Foods, Baking and Bakeware, School and Office Supplies. The school receives a check twice a year for submitted Box Tops and our school family has been doing a great job of saving their Box Tops. However, we are hoping to collect more Box Tops that might otherwise be discarded. We are asking any parishioners that may be throwing them away to please save them in small plastic baggies and deposit them in the basket or box that can be found in the church gift shop. If anyone has any questions, please reach out to our school Box Tops Coordinator, Maria Grosso at

732-221-1008 or [email protected]. Thank you for your support!

Free iPad Training for those 55 & older with change of vision, to be held at the

East Brunswick Library

The Library Equal Access Program (LEAP) and it is being repeated this Spring. We are partnering with the East Brunswick Public Library (EBPL) and the NJ Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CBVI) to offer FREE training on iPads and computers that offer magnification and speech. The training is for anyone 55 and older who has a change in their vision. It is all paid for by CBVI and CBVI has established an assistive technology learning center at EBPL for those with changes in vision. You do not need to have a severe vision im-pairment to participate; anyone with a change in vision is eligible. I am sure there are congregants who will be interested. The training is provided by Advancing Opportunities (AO), a leader in assistive technology training. Anyone interested registers by calling Advancing Opportunities at 888-322-1918, extension 501.

2017 Bishop's Annual Appeal Kickoff

Ambassadors for Christ Please watch your mailbox for a letter from Bishop Checchio coming to you this week announcing the 2017 Bishop's Annual Appeal. You will be interested to know that Bishop Checchio, after a number of meetings and in consultation with many of the pastors and staff, has made some changes to the Appeal. The first, as you probably already noticed, the Appeal has been moved from the fall to a Lenten campaign. The active phase has been condensed and the number of mailings has been reduced. Another significant change is the reintro-duction of Parish Rebates. To allow parishes to share in the success of the Appeal, Bishop Checchio is offering a rebate of 50% of the amount collected over goal. Through your support of the Bishop's Annual Appeal you help those in our diocese whose needs are the greatest --- the poor, the homeless, and those strug-gling with illness or grief. Among other needed pastoral ministries, your gift also supports our priority ministries of evangelization, promotion and support of religious vocations and enhances the work of forming our youth. The many pastoral, educational and charitable minis-tries of the Diocese of Metuchen would not be possible without a generous contribution from every household. Please be as generous as your means allow.

With the new year underway, did you make a New Year’s Resolution to get more involved in the community or even in your church community? If so, and you are a Catholic woman ages 17 or above, please consider joining the St. Bartholomew Columbiettes. We meet once a month on a Thursday evening during the school year. We also host many activities throughout the year on various days of the week. Upcoming activities will include a pizza party/game night at a local children’s shelter, making Easter baskets for children at various local shelters, and cooking and serving a meal at the Oza-nam family shelter. Our biggest event of the year will be our annual wine tasting which will take place on June 3rd. If you would like further information, please con-tact Jeannette at 732 698-1787.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS The monthly SVDP Food Collection will be held the weekend of February 18th & 19th after all of the masses. The pantry is in need of the following items: Laundry Detergent, Dish Detergent, Ketchup, jello/snack packs and puddings, baked beans, shampoo, canned ravioli, Ragu, Fruit juice (Btls. & Pks), canned fruit (Peaches) , applesauce & fruit pks, tissues, tuna fish, pan-cake mix, jelly (grape & strawberry) cookies/treats. St. Bartholomew’s St. Vincent dePaul Confer-ence is thankful to our parish family for your continuous, generous support of our work on behalf of the poor
